‘Once Upon a Time’ (Season 7): Twisted Sister

Since the start of the 7th season of Once Upon a Time back on October 6, it has been clear that we’re not Storybrooke, Maine anymore. It is also clear that some of the inhabitants of that fairytale-laden village were somehow transported to the West Coast, living in a less-than-idyllic town called Hyperion Heights near Seattle. Oh, and then there is the fact that Henry Mills is all grown up with a daughter named Lucy, who is trying to convince him that everyone in Hyperion Heights is a fairytale character – exactly what he did with his biological mom Emma Swan all those decades earlier.

To make matters worse, there is a new evil in the town of Hyperion Heights in the form of uber-wealthy Victoria Belfrey (aka Lady Tremaine) EXCEPT – given what happened in Friday night’s latest episode – it would seem that there is an even worse evil “reigning” over the town: Victoria’s daughter Ivy (aka Drizella).

As Friday’s episode played out, we got to glimpse behind the curtain of what Ivy (Drizella) has really been up to – she not only has magical powers (think the Evil Queen on steroids, if you will) but she has been playing her mother, making Victoria think she is in charge of all the things that go bump in the night in Hyperion Heights and is nothing more than a vain rich girl with mommy issues.

Well, to be honest Ivy is all of those things, but she is – first and foremost – a very powerful witch [having been trained in the fairytale world by none other than Regina Mills], who knows exactly who she really is and hell bent on putting her mother in place and ruining the lives of all those in Hyperion Heights for her own perverse pleasure. To say the least she is one twister sister [as viewers will recall she is the step-sister of Cinderella, otherwise known as Jacinda, the, albeit forgotten, wife of Henry Mills and mother of the aforementioned Lucy].

It is unclear at this time what nefarious ends Ivy has planned for all those in Hyperion Heights, but it is clear that she certainly is keen on getting even with her mother, making sure that her deceased sister is not brought back from the dead and making sure that Jacinda ends up on the rotten side of, well, everything.

Given that this is ‘Once Upon a Time’ though, there will be a silver lining in there somewhere, but right now it is hiding behind a lot of dark and stormy clouds – mostly clouds of anger and resentment stemming from Ivy.

Can Ivy be defeated now that Roni remembers that she is Regina Mills? Will Henry and Jacinda eventually remember who they are? Given that Lucy is the granddaughter of Emma Swan and the great-granddaughter of Rumpelstiltskin it is more than possible that she has a lot of untapped power just waiting to be unleashed. The next new episode of the 7th season of ‘Once Upon a Time’ will air on ABC on Friday, November 17 at 8 PM.
