‘Supergirl’ (Season 2): Superhero Guest Stars

Supergirl Lives

It goes without saying that any time there is a superhero series introduced on TV – like the CW’s (formerly CBS’s) Supergirl, the hope is to have among the guest stars in that series the actors/actresses who preceded as superheroes themselves.

In the debut episode of ‘Supergirl, viewers were delighted to see the introduction of Dean Cain (Clark Kent/Superman himself from ‘Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’) and Helen Slater (who donned the cape as Supergirl/Kara Zor-El in the 1984 box office film about the Man of Steel’s cousin) as the adoptive parents of the newly Earthbound pre-teen Kara (played this time by Melissa Benoist).

Over the course of the season and a half that the show has been on the air, Dean and Helen have appeared in six episodes as Jeremiah and Eliza Danvers, the loving parents of Alex and adopted daughter Kara.

Then there was the introduction of Lynda Carter, Wonder Woman herself, in two early episodes of the second season, playing that universe’s President Olivia Marsdin. It should be noted that Carter will return as the President in next week’s episode.

In the latter part of the show’s first season, Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort – who starred as Kara/Supergirl in the WB’s long-running series ‘Smallville’ – appeared in three episodes as supervillain Indigo (believed to be a version of the villain Brainiac).

And, in last night’s new episode, viewers got to see Teri Hatcher – Lois Lane in ‘Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’ – and Kevin Sorbo – Hercules himself – in more than just a quick cameo, appearing as the King and Queen of Daxam: the parents of Mon-El (who is the real Prince of Daxam much to the chagrin of everyone especially Kara).

What will be interesting to see in the future is who else from the superhero world will be making an appearance on the show.

Here are just a few suggestions to the powers that be at the CW:

• John Shea – he played Lex Luthor on ‘Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’;
• Sam Huntington, who played Jimmy Olsen in the box office film ‘Superman Returns’
• Kristin Kreuk, she played Lana Lang in ‘Smallville’;
• Brandon Routh, he played Superman in the box office film ‘Superman Returns’ and is currently part of the DC world on The CW, starring in ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’;
• Erica Durance, she played Lois Lane on ‘Smallville’;
• Michael Landes, he played Jimmy Olsen on ‘Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’;
• John Glover, he played Lionel Luthor on ‘Smallville’;
• Lindsay Wagner, she played the Bionic Woman; or,
• John Schneider, he played Jonathan Kent on ‘Smallville’.
