The Fosters “Girl Code” Review (Season 4, Episode 8)

Girl Code

It was the girls vs. the boys in the Robotics Competition on last night’s new episode of The Fosters, finding the mostly girls team of the Anchor Bytes (save for three boys who were helping out from the STEAM team, including Jesus) going up against the top ranked team, who has won the competition for over 4 years straight.

At first it seemed as if Mariana was still on her kick of “I am woman, hear me roar!” attitude from previous weeks leading up to the big competition – and while that was clearly on display – even with Momma Lena expressing concern to Mom Stef over Mariana’s behavior – it was admittedly surprising to see Mariana back down, albeit lightly, creating an alliance with the only other all-girls team to ultimately win the competition.

Kudos to them for doing so well, but there is still the matter of Mariana putting all the pressure on herself to be the best in all things much to the detriment of pissing everyone else off by her antics. Her behavior is, quite honestly, getting a little old and I am just waiting for Emma – or anyone else – to put her in her place. I think she needs a good old taste of reality to knock some sense into her, don’t you think?

Elsewhere, Callie just can’t seem to keep herself out of trouble. The cops showed up at the Adams-Foster house because Patrick Malloy – the guy who witnessed Callie’s foster brother Kyle being at the rec center when that neighbor lady was killed (for whom Kyle is in prison for killing, even though it’s seeming more and more like he didn’t do it) – accused Callie of harassment. And even when Mom Stef outright begged Callie to stay out of the case, letting Stef do her job, she did her own investigation into an alternate culprit. Thankfully, she backed off at the last minute taking her Mom Stef’s advice letting the real detectives handle the case. I have to wonder, though, if she continue to take a back seat or get herself into even more trouble.

Meanwhile, the family drama doesn’t stop there as the realtor has found a buyer for the family’s house – which they have to sell in order to get Lena’s dad out of trouble with the IRS. They will have to be out of the house pretty quickly so where exactly are they going to go especially with that many family members, who are accustomed to having an entire home to themselves? And given the clips for the next episode – things are going to get even rockier for Stef and Lena’s relationship, which has been on tenterhooks for a while now.

Lastly, the time has come for Brandon to head to Julliard for the audition of a lifetime; and he is underprepared, which he has himself to blame as much as his mom Stef. Thankfully, they seemed to at least rectify that strain in their relationship, but I have to question will he perform well enough to get into the famed school; will he be willing to leave current girlfriend Cortney behind or will he choke.
