‘Pretty Little Liars’ (Season 7): It’s Still Not Over

The seventh and final season of Pretty Little Liars got underway last Monday, picking up right where the previous season left off with the girls and their significant others (whether they are romantic couples or not) attempting to find Hannah, who unwittingly sacrificed herself to “Uber A” in the sixth season finale.

One thing is for sure with this long-running show on Freeform (formerly ABC Family) you never know what to expect from this show with its unexpected twists and turns; and this final season has already proven to a head-turner.

Let’s take a look at just some of the unbelievable story twists (not only from the end of season six but from the first two episodes of the current season):

• Jessica DiLaurentis (that would be Allison’s late mother) actually had a twin sister – Mary Drake [played by actress Andrea Parker] – who was the birth mother of Charles DiLaurentis, aka Charles Drake aka Charlotte DiLaurentis aka CeCe Drake (who turned out to be the “A” who had tormented the “Liars” for so many years);

• Allison’s husband, Dr. Elliott Rollins [played by actor Huw Collins], was actually in love with CeCe and only married Allison to exact revenge on her for everything that happened to her, especially her death;

• Allison admitted herself to the local mental institution because she believed that she was basically going crazy (all thanks to devious plans by Mary Drake and Elliott Rollins) and that one act allowed Elliott to keep her drugged and controlled; and,

• Hannah [series regular Ashley Benson] was being held out in the woods in some kind of crazy, deserted cabin – presumably by “Uber A” – who tortured her; and then she somehow was able to escape only to be found by a passing driver – who turned out to be none other than Mary Drake herself.

The not so head-turning storylines have included:

• Lucas and Hannah becoming business partners – although I’m not quite sure why Lucas is doing this for her;

• Aria and Ezra co-authoring a new book – that nearly mirrors their “sordid” history together [you have to admit that if you were on the outside looking in at their romantic past it would seem very sordid], which stirs past feelings between them, causing Aria to break up with current boyfriend Liam, who has just been assigned to be their editor [that’s not going to be awkward at all];

• Hannah – mainly because of the trauma she recently suffered – attempting to relive the first time she and fiancé Jordan Hobart met [at a now defunct bar in New York City] only to end her relationship with him (what ramifications will this break-up have on Spencer and Caleb especially given that Caleb and Hannah kissed in the sixth season finale);

• Who is “Uber A?” Just like all the years viewers tried to figure out the true identity of “A” – not to mention wrap their heads around all those who were “A’s” minions – and now the speculations are even more widespread.

That being said, who do you think is “Uber A?” Do you think – like the liars – that Allison killed her sister (actually her cousin) CeCe? If she didn’t, who did? How do you see the show coming to an end since this is the last season? Please share your speculations below.

The next new episode of seventh and final season of ‘Pretty Little Liars’ will air on Freeform on Tuesday, July 5 at 8/7c.
