Royal Pains “Saab Story” Review (Season 8, Episode 5)

Royal Pains

As we edge ever closer to the end of the long-running USA Network dramedy Royal Pains, it seems the writers are still toying with us about when Dr. Henry “Hank” Lawson will finally set down roots. After all, he has been in The Hamptons for years.

What started out as a temporary “gig” has become a long-lasting career for more than just him with Hank Med taking on a life of its own, spearheaded by Hank’s younger brother Evan and helped along the way by physician’s assistant Divya Katdare and Dr. Jeremiah Sacani.

But let’s face it, it’s about time for Hank to settle in, right? And given what happened in the final scene of last night episode, it looks like Hank might finally be doing. What’s more, how appropriate is it that his long-lasting Saab (the vehicle he bought off his mentor Dr. Whitcomb) breaks down in front of a grand home located at 401 Henry Place (no irony there, right?!) that just happens to be up for sale.

What’s next? Will Hank finally settle down, marry and raise a family? Maybe that is what will play out in the series finale in a few weeks, but I’m getting ahead of myself.

Family seems to be the theme of this season with Paige and Evan trying IVF in order to start a family; Divya and Raj expecting their own child (adding to their already burgeoning blended family – they truly have a yours, mine and ours situation going on there) and even Jeremiah, not that long ago, making strides with his own somewhat estranged parents.

But for Hank it’s always been just him; perhaps that’s because he’s unlucky in love or just not ready to commit. However, this season he seems to be more open to settling down than ever before. But will his own family history get in the way. As any viewer will recall, Hank and Evan’s day zoned out on them after their beloved mother passed away when they were kids, eventually leaving them on their own. Many years later, their father came back into their lives – with Evan being a bit more welcoming than Hank, of course. And, to add to the whole revelation that they have a younger sister. It’s more than likely that Hank doesn’t want to end up like his father, but instead of avoiding what his father did to him and Evan, he is missing out on all that he could have had.

With only three episodes in total remaining until the show comes to a close, what do you want to see happen with the main characters on ‘Royal Pains?’ Do you want to see Hank settle down? Do you want Paige and Evan to finally get pregnant? What do you think will happen with Dr. Sacani? Will Divya get into Johns Hopkins, as she hopes, meaning her family will move to Maryland? What do you foresee for the last episodes of the show? Please share your comments below.

And remember the next new episode of the 8th and final season of ‘Royal Pains’ will air on the USA Network on Wednesday, June 22 at 10/9c.
