Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Season 3): Fallen Agent

SHIELD Finale

For the past few episodes of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it has been made clear that we would be losing an agent. But, it was just a matter of which one. It was obvious that a SHIELD ship was in outer space with one of the agents inside, blood was floating around along with a broken cross necklace as the ship exploded.

As each of the last four episodes have played out, that cross necklace had been passed around among the agents – Yo-Yo, Mack, Fitz, Daisy, Lincoln – but each time we had to wonder which of them it would be. The powers that be behind the show have been playing a very intriguing of cat and mouse with that necklace, making us worried for every single one of them

The two-hour season finale was action packed as we got closer and closer to that inevitable moment. First the team worked to stop Hive from arming a nuclear warhead and thankfully they succeeded in stopping him (for the time being). Mack and Yo-Yo set up a mind warp machine within the nuclear silo and used Lincoln’s electrical ability, they fry Hive’s brain pretty good – at least for a short time.

He was temporarily confused by just a handful of the people he has consumed, reliving moments in their lives with those around him. That confusion allowed the team to catch him in a gel matrix chamber that gave them the false hope that they had stopped him. But, of course that wasn’t the case, as his minions – former SHIELD agents turned into members of his primitives – were able to set him free.

This led to a showdown inside the SHIELD bunker between Hive and Daisy each holding their own against the other. But it ultimately came down to Lincoln – who sustained a near fatal injury somehow sneaking his way inside the Zephyr [which can fly into space] past both Daisy and Hive – and setting the plane into the stratosphere. Needless to say, after all that build-up, the fallen agent is Lincoln; and he took Hive along with him.

In the end, though, it seemed that Daisy went rogue – if the newspaper articles on Coulson’s run-down apartment room were any indication – and he and Mack were tasked to bring her in by whoever is now the Director of SHIELD. Who could that Director be? And what exactly is Daisy doing? Is she trying to make up for what she did while under Hive’s sway? What does SHILED have planned for her?

And moreover, what exactly was Dr. Radcliffe doing in that final scene with the AI that was behind that screen? I am sure that those who are much better versed in the world of the Marvel Universe than me might be able to give us an idea so please let us know.

What did you think of this latest season of the show? What do you think is going to happen next season? Will Daisy be the new “big bad” or will that title go to the AI featured in that last scene of the season finale? Please share your thoughts below.

‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ will be back for a fourth season on ABC sometime this fall.
