WonderCon 2016 Report: DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

Legends of Tomorrow

One of the final TV panels at WonderCon 2016 this past weekend was the new CW series DC’s Legends of Tomorrow that featured cast members Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz, Franz Drameh and Ciara Renee taking the stage along with executive producer Marc Guggenheim to talk about their show.

After showing a teaser trailer of what’s coming up in the show throughout the rest of its debut season, which included sneak peeks at upcoming guest stars like Firefly’s Jewel Staite and Johnathon Schaech as legendary Jonah Hex, the panelists were asked a wide variety of questions by moderator Damian Holbrook.

First of all, Marc was asked what it was like putting together this ‘superteam’ and he shared that all the cast members “were their first choices for each character,” but they “just didn’t expect them (all) to say yes.”

It was then revealed that they are currently filming the first season finale, but getting reveals out of any of them was rather difficult. However, Brandon did mention that he enjoyed filming the Wild West episode, which will be upcoming and Marc shared that tonight’s episode will see a two-year time jump at least for Ray, Kendra and Sarah, who were left behind when Rip’s ship took off without them. Ciara also shared that her character Kendra will start to remember more of her past lives, which will cause trouble in the budding relationship between her and Ray. And, Caity revealed that Sarah “might sit in a certain captain’s chair (soon).”

Franz was then asked about the challenge of filling the shoes of Robbie Amell, who previously played Firestorm. While he didn’t specifically answer that question, he said it is “cool to play a different Firestorm” and he thinks Jax is more like the comic version of Ronnie Raymond.” He also shared that he loves working with Victor Garber; and when he got to wear his Firestorm costume for the first time he “ran around like a 5-year-old.” Franz also shared that he and Victor “got on like a house on fire from the moment (we) met” in the original chemistry read.

The cast also joked about how noisy Rip’s Captain’s chair is when it moves into position and that Brandon has the noisiest costume, which takes him about 15 to 20 minutes to get into each time he has to wear it.

Marc was then asked if they have to barter with DC for characters, but he said it’s more like an “ongoing conversation with them.” He also shared that we “have been pretty honest about our wish list” and that it’s just a matter of “having a dialogue with them”.

When the cast was asked who they would like to see on the show Ciara said that she’d like to see more of Vixen, Caity would like to see Speedy (aka Thea Queen) and Iris West make appearances; while Brandon would like to see Killer Frost on the show.

Make sure to watch the next new episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, which will air on The CW tonight at 9/8c.
