Suits “Blowback” Review (Season 5, Episode 11)

“You’re under arrest for conspiracy to commit fraud.”

That is a terrifying sentence for a man on the verge of having everything he wanted: the woman he loved by his side (and ready to walk down the aisle), devoted friends and co-workers who would do anything for him and ironically walking away from the job that not only changed his life for the better but also changed it for the worse.

Case in point: he is being arrested for being a fraud – pretending to be an attorney when he clearly isn’t one – even though he has a photographic memory, allowing him to pass as an attorney for years now, winning cases and making a difference for so many people.

But no good deed goes unpunished.

Anita Gibbs is set on taking him down and taking Harvey and Jessica right along with him. But the real question is: who turned Mike Ross in on Suits?

Was it Mike’s former best buddy from college Trevor?

Was it Dana “Scotty” Scott – Harvey’s former paramour and fellow attorney who knows the truth about Mike?

Was it someone else?

We will find that answer out in next week’s episode, but for now let’s talk about what happened in the first new episode of the current season of ‘Suits’ after the show’s long break.

There was a lot of – for lack of a better word – posturing among the attorneys – whether it was Gibbs trying to prove her point; Harvey trying to save Mike’s ass; Jessica trying to protect her firm; Louis trying to safeguard everyone; Rachel trying to keep Mike out of prison and Donna, well, being Donna.

I, for one, can’t wait to see what Donna will do now that Louis has let her go as his right-hand woman and now she has returned to Harvey. It’s going to be priceless to say the least.

Then there is Robert Zane, Rachel’s dad, who is less than thrilled to learn the truth about his soon-to-be son-in-law. For one, he wants nothing to do with Mike Ross and he wants Rachel out of Mike’s life forever. I doubt that will happen (at least for now), but I don’t think he’s going to give up the hope that he can reason with his daughter to walk away from Mike before it’s too late.

While it looked like, throughout most of the mid-season return, that Mike was not going to get out, Harvey – by “hook or by crook” – worked some magic and got him out (at least for now). But, it was Mike who came up with the idea to use Jack Soloff – the man who has been wreaking havoc at Pearson, Specter and Litt – as a scapegoat. Well played, Mike, well played; but will it hold up? I guess we’ll find out more next week.

What did you think of the mid-season return? Were you concerned that they wouldn’t get Mike out? Do you have an idea who turned Mike in? Do you think that Rachel will stand by Mike? What do you think Rachel’s dad will do? What will Soloff do in retaliation? Please share your thoughts in our comments section below.
