Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Season 3): What’s Next?

With Thanksgiving only a few days away, most of the regular primetime programming is on break for the holiday, including the fan favorite ABC series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The show, as any Marvel fan knows, focuses on – what else? – the special agents of SHIELD, widely known as the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division

The mainstay in the show has been Agent – now Director – Phil Coulson, who was introduced in the box office film Iron Man. Coulson later appeared in the sequel to that film as well as Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers where he was fatally wounded by Loki.

When the story was brought to the small screen, it was revealed that then Director Nick Fury used alien technology to bring Coulson back to life; and that set about a chain reaction of Coulson trying to find out the truth about his miraculous resurrection.

It also gave Coulson and SHIELD the chance to bring on a whole new team, including the following:

• Melinda May – The act pilot and weapons expert known as “the Cavalry”;
• Grant Ward – The black ops specialist, who turned out to be an well-placed undercover Hydra agent, who is now the ‘big bad’;
• Daisy “Skye” Johnson – Hacktivist extraordinaire, who was revealed as an Inhuman, who can sense vibrations and create earthquakes and is now an accomplished agent;
• Leo Fitz – One half of “FitzSimmons” – the absurdly talent engineering tech specialist;
• Jemma Simmons – Fitz’s counterpart, who specializes in life sciences (both human and alien);
• Lance Hunter – A former mercenary, who has quickly become an essential part of the SHIELD team;
• Bobbi Morse – Hunter’s ex-wife, who was an undercover agent within Hydra as well as a kick-ass agent in her own right (much like May);
• Alphonso “Mack” MacKenzie – He started out a S.H.I.E.L.D. mechanic, but he has become so much more than that; and,
• Lincoln Campbell – An Inhuman (like Daisy) who can manipulate electrical charges and has a medical background

Since the beginning of the series, the SHIELD team has had to deal with Hydra, Raina, Daisy’ crazy father Calvin Zabo, Daisy’s even crazier mother Jiaying and her Inhuman Army and Ward, who was revealed as a massive turncoat at the end of season one.

Now they’ve got to deal with Rosalind and the ATCU (Advanced Threat Containment Unit), who are hunting Inhumans, and very well may be hiding an even deeper, not so secret connection to Hydra and the Monolith. And they, of course, are still dealing with Hydra and Ward.

The big question now is what’s next? What will happen now that it has been revealed that ATCU is linked with Hydra? What will Ward do next to the SHIELD team? What will the team do about Lash (aka Andrew Garner, May’s ex-husband) and Gideon Malick’s involvement in his presumed death?

There are so many possibilities of where the story could go. Please share what you think may happen next in our comments section below.

The next new episode of the third season of ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ will air on ABC on Tuesday, December 1 at 9/8c.
