The Amazing Race “My Tongue Doesn’t Even Twist That Way” Review (Season 27 Episode 6)

The Amazing Race My Tongue Doesn't Even Twist That Way

The Amazing Race returned tonight with yet another lackluster episode with the lengthily titled “My Tongue Didn’t Even Twist That Way”. The teams performed one quick challenge in Zimbabwe before hightailing it for Paris!

It’s usually fun to see people performing daring or dangerous challenges, but this one really didn’t do it for me. First of all, they just did a giant swing challenge last week, and this was way too similar. Second, there was zero stakes in this bungee jump at all. Everybody just left the starting mat, walked over to this bridge, and then they all jumped off and then made it to the same flight. So there was no sense of urgency here. It was just a pretty little distraction before we left to Paris. It was almost as if they really wanted the racers to bungee jump from that bridge and they forced it into the schedule where it didn’t belong.

Then everybody gets to Paris and the stupidity continues. Seriously, does nobody know the motto of the French Revolution? Sure, maybe “Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite” isn’t common knowledge, but you’d think that at least someone would at least hear the first two and be able to finish it out. Unfortunately Logan couldn’t complete it, which put them at the back of the pack for the rest of the leg.

The only highlight to the whole episode ended up being the rapping challenge, which you could tell the Race producers had a fun time putting together and filming. However, it was totally neutered by the ridiculous end of the episode. This is the second time on this race that we’ve had a “Keep racing” at the mat, and a “to be continued” at the end of the episode. It’s so frustrating that The Amazing Race is doing this change this season, where instead of a non-elimination leg they keep racing instead. The non-elimination was so effective because you didn’t know if it was coming, but now when team one shows up we already know that nobody’s going home that week! It really kills all of the suspense of the episode and it’s really frustrating.

What did you guys think of the episode? Sound off in the comments!

Random Thoughts:

– Man, smart phones have really changed the way this game is played! It used to be you had to ask a local or find an internet cafe to research stuff, but now you just borrow someone’s iPhone for a sec and you get your answer.

– I loved the border on the screen and the sparkling during the rapping challenge! And the sparkling jewelry!

– Tiffany saying “We don’t know how to cross the road here” was pretty hilarious considering we saw them run across the street with a big crosswalk visible on the screen.
