Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Season 3): Inhumans

Season 3

Welcome to the world of Inhumans on the ABC series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. all thanks to that chemical compound Terrigen that escaped into the ecosystem. Granted the people affected by that compound already have the dormant alien gene within their DNA that, when combined with the compound, makes them the unwilling, and more importantly, the unaware “recipient”, turning them into an Inhuman, someone with unnatural abilities just like Skye nee Daisy Johnson.

Did you get all that?

I know it’s a little hard to swallow even for those of us who have been watching the show since the debut episode, which aired on July 19, 2013. It’s mind-boggling to say the least and a bit disconcerting to think that Terrigen worked its way into the ecosystem – primarily into – of all things – fish oil tablets. Thank God this is fiction and TV entertainment or I have a feeling that anyone taking those tablets would be marching into their local store to demand their money back – but I digress.

What a way to open a new season of the show, right? A new Inhuman – desperately trying to figure out what has happened to himself – not only encounters an armed military force intent on his destruction but also encounters the newly monikered Daisy – with Mac and Hunter in tow – wherein he learns the unbelievable intricacies of alien DNA, Terrigen and his new reality.

I think he handled it pretty well, don’t you? Quite frankly, I would have either completely fallen about or absolutely flipped out.

Meanwhile, how about the new and improved Fitz, facing down those armed thugs in Morocco in his never-ending mission to figure out how to retrieve Simmons from that damn Monolith that sucked her up at the end of last season? It would seem that Fitz is back and admitting that he loves Jemma. How about that?

What’s more, we learn that Jemma is NOT dead. She has – seemingly – been transported to an alternate universe or at least that’s sure what it looked like in the coda to the episode. Where do you think she is? Or if you are a Marvel expert, perhaps you can help those of us (myself included) who are novice at best where the Marvel world is concerned. Where the hell is Jemma and how does the SHIELD team get her back?

That being said, where the hell is May? Coulson said – in his conversation with Fitz – that she went on vacation and never came back? What the hell? Obviously – thanks to the clips for next week episode – it looks like she is back (and so is Ward, but I’m not going to comment on him until we see what evil thing he does next).

Oh, and how about that creature that Mac, Lincoln and Daisy battled at the hospital? Is that an evolved human along the lines of Raina? He certainly was powerful with some crazy-ass powers of his own; and I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of him. But, damn – he was scary looking, right?

What did you think of the season premiere of SHIELD? Pleas share your thoughts below.

And remember the next new episode of the third season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will air on ABC on Tuesday, October 6 at 9/8c.
