Cedar Cove “Getting to Know You” Review (Season 3, Episode 11) (Season Finale – Part 2)

The conclusion of the two-part season finale of Cedar Cove aired on Saturday night, bringing some of the season-long story arcs to a close while leaving far too many up in the air; but that’s the purpose of a season finale, right?

In the case of the residents of this quaint little town in the State of Washington, the wedding of Grace Sherman and Cliff Harding is fast approaching with bride and groom still having issues agreeing on what kind of wedding they are going to have.

But with MaryEllen and on-again, off-again boyfriend John announcing their surprising engagement, Grace realizes (with a helpful assist from best fried Olivia, of course) that it is their differences that make their relationship work. She tells Cliff “let’s just get married” whether it’s a simple ceremony or the fancy one of her dreams, they love each other and need to be married.

Kudos to Cliff for giving Grace what she wanted: a beautiful wedding overlooking the marina with a string quartet, lots of flowers and just the right amount of fancy to suit her taste. It was a wonderful moment for the couple and all of the onlookers that’s for sure.

The underlying stories, though, are that many of the other couples in town are in disarray. Let’s take a look at those:

• Jack and Olivia – She is still having issues with him while he wants nothing more than their relationship to move forward.
• Paul and Olivia – He finally admits that he is leaving town because he has feelings for her and he cannot, in good conscience, ruin her relationship with Jack and turn their lives on their ends.
• Justine and Luke – She is very upset with him that he would consider re-enlisting in the military without talking it over with her – and let’s not even get into the fact that he suffered from severe PTSD so much so that the military most likely wouldn’t even take him back.
• Jack and Eddie – They are still at odds at the paper in Seattle; and quite honestly, I’d like nothing better than for this storyline to just end with Jack giving up the job and going back to Cedar Cove for good.
• Linnette and her parents – They admit to her that Gloria is her sister and Linnette is not happy with any of them.
• Rebecca – She hasn’t really learned anything from her suspension or Paul; and she seems to think that she can just push over Anthony to get what she wants – I’m just waiting for Rebecca to get her comeuppance (it couldn’t happen to a more deserving person at this point).

And how about that last scene between Olivia and Paul? I mean we could all see that coming, right? He is going to leave right after the wedding and after admitting how he feels to Olivia, it only stands to reason that he would want to know how she feels. And given the fact that she is clearly unsure about her relationship with Jack, what do you think she will say to Paul in answer to his question: “I have to know do you feel the same way about me?” What do you think Olivia will say?

A decision has yet to be made by the Hallmark Channel whether ‘Cedar Cove’ will return for a fourth season or not.
