Cedar Cove “Something’s Gotta Give” Review (Season 3, Episode 3)

Cast Photo Cedar Cove

The town of Cedar Cove is a beautiful place to live (for sure), but just because it’s an idyllic town doesn’t mean that the residents have, necessarily, idyllic lives.

Case in point: Judge Olivia Lockhart and newspaper reporter Jack Griffith. Their relationship has been severely tested lately due to Jack having a relapse. As fans of the show will recall, Jack is a recovering alcoholic and at the end of last season, he backslid. When Olivia learned the truth, it caused a rift between the lovebirds.

While Jack is determined to do everything he can to drink again as well as giving Olivia some much needed space, Olivia is not only uncertain if she can trust Jack but also whether she wants to deal with his drinking issues in her everyday life. The fact still remains that they truly love each other, but is that enough?

In the end, though, they agreed to stay together, but to slow things down in their relationship and taking time to really learn about each other. Let’s hope that change of course will help them; but with Paul Watson, the new DA in town, Jack has reason to be concerned.

That concern has also extended to Bob Beldon, who doesn’t completely trust the new DA, who is also now a monthly guest at the Bed & Breakfast owned by Bob and his wife Peggy. Peggy has welcomed Paul with open arms – she being one of the sweetest ladies in town, of course – but Bob is leary; and I am pretty sure he isn’t going to be accepting of Paul any time soon. After all he and Jack are very good friends (and recovering alcoholics). Needless to say, Bob is on Jack’s side.

In her first official “act” as town manager, Grace wanted the entire town to come together for a picture; but things didn’t go according to plan. Only about a dozen townspeople showed up, breaking Grace’s heart. She felt she had failed in her new role and that she needed to pass the reins back to Norman, the former town manager. Thankfully – it is Cedar Cove after all – things all worked out with a bit of help from Olivia, who was able to give them a hint about a loophole.

Where the other characters are concerned, Warren is still being a child at work, wanting “daddy” to get rid of Alex at the office. I get it that every show has to have an antagonist, but Warren is just lame and I am, quite frankly, very tired of his antics. It’s also a little hard seeing Alex go from ranch hand to CFO of Saget Development. It just seems very odd to say the least. And, I like the relationships between MaryEllen and John as well as Justine and Luke; but there just always seems to be so little for them to do. It’s a waste of characters if you don’t give them more interesting stories.

I am intrigued, however, with the introduction of Gloria, the new woman moving to Cedar Cove who had a picture of Roy and Corrie Macaffe on her phone. She is either the biological daughter Corrie gave up all those decades ago or she is working for the agency that alerted Roy that their daughter was searching for them.
