This past weekend at Comic Con 2015 cast members of the ABC fairytale drama Once Upon a Time, including Josh Dallas, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Morrison, Lana Parrilla, Colin O’Donoghue, Rebecca Mader, Sean Maguire, Emilie de Ravin and Robert Carlyle as well as the creative minds behind the show – Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz – took to the stage to talk about the show’s upcoming fifth season with uberfan actress Yvette Nicole Brown (of Community fame) acting as moderator.

The panel got started with an extended clip looking back at Emma Swan’s journey from New York City to Storybrooke, Maine. This was an important clip because the coming year’s season will focus on Emma now that she has become The Dark One.

But rather than focusing directly on Emma’s dark path, the panel actually got started with the executive producers being asked if the path that the characters have gone on has all been at the hands of Isaac, the author, or fate or free will. Adam chimed in quickly that it is free will.

Each of the cast had the opportunity to talk about the direction that their characters have gone over the course of this past season with Emilie joking that Belle “needs a vacation” while Rumple clearly showed that “he was an addict” not only with his overwhelming love for Belle but also his desire for power. Lana shared that Regina has “come full circle” and having “familial support has helped her”. She also shared that Regina “found love”, which turned the conversation over to Sean, who stated that he is “pretty madly in love with Regina”.

This, of course, led to the uncomfortable truth that Robin and Zelena are having a child together. Rebecca chimed in that “this is the best character I’ve ever played in my life” and that Zelena honestly believes that “she has been incredibly wronged”.

Ginnifer and Josh were then asked what it was liked to not be so good this past season and they both agreed that it was “fun to be bad every day”. Jennifer then chimed in that Emma’s “confidence (has been) shaken” because of her parents’ deceit and that her being “the savior of the town was false” due to what her parents did before her birth. Emma’s relationship with Hook was also discussed with Colin, who shared that Hook “found love with Emma (and he is) desperately holding onto that”.

It was during the audience Q&A that a sneak peek of Emma Swan as The Dark One was screened and Eddy and Adam kept mum with spoilers, but they did share that the show’s 100th episode will air this season and they “will make it special”. They also briefly talked about the Camelot storyline that will be featured in this upcoming season, sharing that “Camelot (could be) in a parallel timeline” to before Killian became Captain Hook.

The panel ended much like previous Comic Con panels with a clip of what to expect for the new season, featuring a look at Merida from the animated box office film Brave.

‘Once Upon a Time’ will return to ABC for its fifth season starting on Sunday, September 27 at 8/7c.
