Eye Candy “AMA” Review (Season 1, Episode 8)

Eye Candy

“Ask me anything.”

In last night’s episode of the MTV thriller Eye Candy, Lindy Sampson (series lead Victoria Justice) and the Cyber Crimes Unit (CCU) are on the hunt for the Babylon portal, the very sick world of the dark internet where “The Doll House” [the voyeuristic site from last week’s episode] and many other depraved sites are hosted.

This time around the team is looking into the case of model-turned-photographer Edward Kent, who mutilating himself live online in “an eye for an eye” case that is beyond bizarre because he claims that he was mugged and attacked, causing the loss of his eye. The cops, of course, know that Kent’s claim is a big fat lie, setting the guy up to follow his movements online in order to get an inside line on Babylon. This inside line could also potentially lead them to the Flirtual killer since that dating site is also hosted under Babylon.

So many fish to fire if only they can reel in the big one, right?

As it turns out, Lindy discovers that Kent had a fetish for ordering woman from a prostitution site under the Babylon portal; and much to her dismay she discovers a picture of her missing sister Sarah on that site. How many more bad things can happen to this missing girl? While Lindy isn’t any closer, at least not yet, to finding her sister, she does learn something else thanks to an assist from best friend George (series regular Harvey Guillen): there is a file embedded within that picture of Sarah that leads Lindy to a redacted copy of her CCU file. You know the one that lead her to being arrested by then boyfriend Ben (guest star Daniel Lissing).

There were plenty of “one year ago” flashbacks to Ben, Detective Tommy Calligan (series regular Casey Deidrick) and Sgt. Catherine Shaw (recurring guest star Melanie Nicholls-King) setting up the sting against Lindy that would hopefully get them one step closer to the elusive hacker Bubonic (recurring guest star Peter Mark Kendall). These flashbacks were interspersed with present day scenes of George and Lindy hacking into the CCU system to find Lindy’s full case file – they always seem to find a way to get the cops out of the way and get access to anything they want within the blink of an eye, huh?

Lindy also finds the actual case file in the basement with all the records of the sting operation specifically a flashdrive filled with all the recordings of the case, which included how she and Ben meet, as well as a video recording of Ben getting raked over the coals by Sgt. Shaw and the St. Christopher’s necklace (with a planted bug inside) that Ben gave to Lindy. While she learned that he was a cop after the fact (and after they fell in love), but she didn’t know until now just how far the lies reached.

Who can Lindy really trust now? She’s pissed at Sgt. Shaw for claiming that she knows something about her sister’s disappearance, according to Tommy anyway, but she has refused to divulge that information and she knows that they used her to get to Bubonic. I guess if I were in Lindy’s position, I’d be pretty pissed too. But that doesn’t negate the fact that the Flirtual Killer is still after her and that, whether she likes it or not, she is going to need the help of the entire CCU, including Tommy.

In the meantime, Tessa (recurring guest star Theodora Woolley), that annoying friend of Sophia’s (series regular Kiersey Clemons), has gotten herself into some very serious waters. Not only is she “borrowing” Lindy’s clothes, but she is also dating the guys from Flirtual who were matched to Lindy, including – creepily enough – the Flirtual killer. It is going to get very ugly quickly. And given the fact that there are only two episodes left of the show’s debut season, the situations are going to turn even more grave soon.

What did you think of last night’s episode? Do you think Lindy will go back to work with the CCU or will she get even with Tommy and Sgt. Shaw? What do you think the Flirtual killer will do to Tessa? You know it’s not going to be pretty whatever this crazed guy does? And who is the killer? It would seem we are going to find out soon enough, but please share your thoughts below.

The penultimate episode of ‘Eye Candy’ will air on MTV on Monday, March 8 at 10/9c.
