Reign “Forbidden” Review (Season 2 Episode 15)

Reign Forbidden Season 2 Episode 15 05

In this episode of Reign, called “Forbidden,” Mary decides to stand up for herself and be her own woman.

I’m having a hard time with Mary at the moment. I mean on the one hand, I still love and admire her for the strength and dignity she has shown since her attack. Yet on the other hand, I hate what she has done to Francis.

Mother Makes a Demand

Mary’s mother arrived in court and immediately demanded that Mary produce an heir, even after she learned about Mary being raped. Again, I could see the situation from both sides. I don’t think Mary’s mother was trying to be cold, but she felt that the only way to keep Mary safe was if her daughter produced an heir to ensure her place in the world. So Mary called on Francis and said she was ready to get it done.

That scene between them was awkward to watch. The whole time, I couldn’t help but to feel how terrible it was that Mary had repeatedly turned Francis away, only to call him to her bed when it had something to do with power. Both of them were being forced in that moment and it wasn’t even remotely romantic in my eyes.

Mary Stands Up for Herself

Luckily Francis called it off and they again went in their separate directions. After that, something changed in Mary and she decided that enough was enough. She had lived her entire life as a pawn in other people’s lives and she was done. It occurred to me that, in a way, Mary has been a victim for a very long time and that this could be a good thing for her. Maybe she should go to her country to rule and have the man that she wants at her side.

But my heart still broke again for Francis. Through no fault of his own, he has lost the woman that he loves and is being told, even by his mother, that he should find someone else. There’s no denying that he and Lola have a connection, but I wonder if he could truly be happy with her instead of Mary. It looks like we’re going to find out though, as it seems as though that’s the direction the show is heading.

Antoine’s Revenge

As for the rest of the court, Antoine continued his steady attack against Bash by pulling him and Kenna farther apart. She kept saying that she knew exactly what a man like Antoine wanted and that she could handle him, but she still let the man manipulate her again and again. I was happy that she immediately sent back the clothes after she saw how it devastated Bash, but then Antoine basically proposed. She thinks he’s offering her the life that she hasn’t been able to have with Bash, but really he’s just using her to get to Bash. If she did go through with it, I have to wonder if Antoine would find ways to make her life miserable, as yet another way to hurt Bash.

Makeovers by Greer

Greer’s story is heading where I’m sure we all saw it going, but I’m still enjoying it. I’m looking forward to seeing Greer dress up all of Sharlene’s friends and get them into all the fancy parties. When you take out, you know, the whole prostitute thing it’s almost like she’s just going to be giving them makeovers. I realize that won’t last for long and I’m sure someone will find out what she’s doing and it will send her further into dishonor. But I’m not afraid to admit that I’m going to enjoy this part of the story while it lasts. It’s kind of nice to see someone outside of court and all of the politics happening there.
