Jane The Virgin “Chapter Fourteen” Review (Season 1 Episode 14)

Jane The Virgin Chapter Fourteen01

In this episode of Jane the Virgin, called “Chapter Fourteen,” Jane and Rafael have some trouble with trust, while the truth about Rose unravels to tragic results.

Jane’s Turn

In my review of the last episode, I praised Rafael for breaking through the barrier of my cold heart with the tremendous support he gave Jane during a rough time. This time is was Jane’s turn to help Rafael as he deal with some difficulties of his own. Jane and Rafael’s relationship is still new and she discovered through the course of the episode how little she knew about him. When she saw him acting suspicious, how could Jane help but to wonder if he was indeed hiding his father? Did she know Rafael well enough to be certain that he wouldn’t protect Emilio, even if he was the evil Sin Rostro?

Those are the kinds of questions you really don’t want to be asking yourself when you’re having someone’s baby. Once Jane learned the truth, she felt awful about her distrust and then had to figure out how to help Rafael through the tragedy of losing his father. Unlike when Jane was on bed rest, Rafael didn’t know what he needed. He couldn’t tell her to lie on the floor or talk to him all night to keep him occupied. So Jane did the only thing she knew how to do and that was just be there for him. The result was the two of them growing closer together and exchanging their first “I love you” to each other. Once they said it, the moment was perfect for Rafael to ask Jane the most important question of all.

Okay, so who else thought he was going to ask her to marry him? I don’t know how I feel about them moving in together before marriage. Sure, that’s a completely normal thing, but Jane is a very old-fashioned kind of girl. Will she actually do it? I’m not sure.

Rogelio Steps Up

In my review last week, I also predicted that Rogelio would give up the starring role that required him to travel to Mexico and take a lesser role to be closer to his new family. I did not, however, predict that Jane would force him and Xo to sit down and talk about their feelings for one another. I knew he cared about Xo, but I thought he would use Jane as the only reason he wanted to stay in Miami. I have never been so glad to be wrong in my life.

Xo and Rogelio belong together, but I wondered if we were going to continue to see them dance around each other for a while longer. I also wondered if Xo would keep her vow of chastity for a while longer, too. Well as soon as they declared their feelings, all of that flew right out of the window. I’m so happy for them I could just burst. I’m also excited to see Rogelio having to work with a man he doesn’t like. It should make for some great stuff coming up.

Pesky Petra

I seriously have a love/hate relationship with Petra. I keep going from wanting her to disappear forever, to wanting to cheer every time she overcomes some obstacle and stays in the fight. She sauntered into the hotel and announced she was part owner and I immediately groaned in sympathy for poor Rafael. But I had to grudgingly admire the way Petra manipulated Luisa into giving up her shares of the hotel.

I do still feel bad for Rafael as I’m sure she’s going to cause him loads of trouble, but I also think the girl kind of deserves a bit of a break herself. I’ll be curious to see if she and Rafael can work together. If they can’t, I’ll be curious to see who ends up getting the other one tossed out.

What did you think of this episode of Jane the Virgin? Whose love story were you most excited by in this episode, Jane and Rafael’s or Xo and Rogelio’s?
