‘Once Upon a Time’ (Season 4): 3 Farewells and a Reunion

OUAT Villains NEW

As the fall finale of the fourth season of Once Upon a Time rolled out this past Sunday night, there were a lot of tearful farewells and a reunion that will assuredly spell trouble for the mysterious little town of Storybrooke, Maine.

The sisters of Arendelle – Queen Elsa (recurring guest star Georgina Haig) and Princess Anna (recurring guest star Elizabeth Lail) along with Anna’s fiancé Kristoff (recurring guest star Scott Michael Foster) – finally found a portal home, but not before Anna could dispense one last bit of helpful information to Emma (series lead Jennifer Morrison), Mary Margaret (series lead Ginnifer Goodwin) and David (series regular Josh Dallas). Their farewell was tearful, but for good reason [and an added bonus was to see Anna preparing for her wedding – FINALLY! – to Kristoff].

Meanwhile, Regina (series regular Lana Parrilla) was dealing with the fact that her love Robin Hood (recurring guest star Sean Maguire) had a very difficult decision to make: stay with his returned wife Marian (guest star Christie Laing) or move forward with Regina, who is his true love.

That decision is made for Robin, though, when the frozen spell for which Marian had been under due to the Snow Queen (recurring guest star Elizabeth Mitchell) returns, making it necessary, in order to save her life, for Marian to leave Storybrooke for good. But, she can’t leave their son Roland (recurring guest star Raphael Alejandro) and she can’t go out into our world alone. Robin will need to go with her. Needless to say, the farewell between Regina and Robin was tearful and makes one wonder if there is potential for her to revert to her evil ways at some point.

The most tearful farewell was between Mr. Gold (series regular Robert Carlyle) and his new wife Belle (series regular Emilie de Ravin), the latter of whom learned what he has really been doing with the sorcerer’s magical hat. Using the Rumpelstiltskin dagger, Belle forces Gold to stop the spell he was going to unleash over Storybrooke and, hardest of all, forces him out of Storybrooke.

This circumstance leads Gold not only on a path of revenge but also into a reunion with pure evil from his past that will involve Queen Ursula (guest star Merrin Dungey), the evil sea witch; and eventually to Maleficent (guest star Kristin Bauer van Straten) and Cruella De Vil (guest star Victoria Smurfit).

Once Upon a Time is going to be on an extended break with the next new episode of its fourth season not due back until Sunday, March 1 at 8/7c on ABC.
