Sleepy Hollow Season 2: My Wish List

We all seem to have survived for a year without Sleepy Hollow, but I am SO glad that ridiculously long hiatus is over. I’ve really been missing Ichabod, Abbie, and the rest of the crew. As we prepare to dive in to season 2 tonight, I thought I’d share a few things I’m hoping for this season. Since Sleepy Hollow got so many things right the first time around, this list is actually pretty short.

More Allies for Ichabod and Abbie

The first season proved that there is no shortage of evil beings coming after our heroes. It seems that almost everyone Ichabod and Abbie met last season turned out to be someone trying to kill them and/or thwart their attempts to stop the Apocalypse. They had very few allies and what allies they did have didn’t seem to make it past more than one or two episodes. I am not completely opposed to having almost insurmountable odds stacked against our heroes because it makes their success in the face of such odds that much more satisfying. However, having everyone they meet either betray them or try to kill them can get tiresome. Jenny was a most welcome addition to the team, and I’m overjoyed that she’s sticking around. I hope this season Ichabod and Abbie gain some more lasting allies like Jenny.

More Use for Katrina

Sleepy Hollow Season 1 Episode 12/13 The Indispensable Man/Bad Blood (2)

If there was one thing that bothered me about last season, it was that Katrina seemed pretty much next to useless. It’s obvious that Ichabod loves her very much, but until the end of the season, Katrina seemed to be a pretty much unnecessary character. She just seemed to show up at the most inopportune times and dish out cryptic messages. I was kind of disappointed about that because it would seem that any witch powerful enough to do what she did to Ichabod would be able to free herself from Purgatory. Or at least be more than just a damsel in distress. My hope for Katrina this year is that she become a more integral part of Team Crane. I would also love to see her use more magic to help out our heroes.

Rescue for Captain Irving

Sleepy Hollow Season 1 Episode 11 The Vessel (3)

As I’ve already mentioned, our heroes have a very limited number of allies and when Captain Irving chose to go down for the murders his possessed daughter committed, Team Crane lost a valuable member. I must admit that at first I was pretty suspicious of Capt. Irving. I couldn’t really tell where his loyalties lay until about halfway through the season. After it was revealed that he lost his faith after his daughter’s accident, his reluctance to accept everything that Ichabod and Abbie (or Icabbie as I like to call them) were selling makes sense. Irving falling on his sword to protect not only his daughter, but Ichabod and Abbie too, removed all doubt about his allegiance to the good guys. I hope that even with all that’s coming down on Icabbie right now, they don’t forget about Irving’s plight and they find a way to get him back.

Sleepy Hollow Doesn’t Lose Its Sense of Fun

One of the reasons I fell in love with this show last season is how much fun it is. Yes, the themes are heavy and there were some emotional moments. But even in the thick of deep emotion and heavy, apocalyptic themes, there was always an undercurrent of humor. Most of it had to do with Ichabod being a man out of time, and I maintain that his conversation with Yolanda from OnStar was one of the funniest bits of television in recent memory. It looks like this season is going to get even heavier with the revelation of who Jeremy is and his true intentions, but even with all of that happening, I truly hope that Sleepy Hollow can maintain their sense of fun and dark humor.

Well, that’s pretty much it. Like I said, Sleepy Hollow did a whole lot of things right in the first season, so I’m really glad that this is a ‘wish list’ and not a ‘dear lord please fix this immediately’ list. I am very excited to see what’s in store for us this season and I’m ready to get on this rollercoaster again. What do you hope to see this season? Sound off in the comments!
