Royal Pains Season 6 Review “A Bigger Boat” – Don’t Look Behind the Curtain

Royal Pains Season 6 Episode 12 A Bigger Boat (10)

In this episode of Royal Pains, called “A Bigger Boat,” the curtain is pulled back and the identity of Oz is finally revealed after Emma tells Evan and Paige (almost) all. Meanwhile, Hank and Charlotte’s lives are changed forever.

Charlotte’s journey in this episode was very enlightening. I thought that once she got her corneal replacement surgery, she would be able to see and instantly her life would be different. Well, I guess that was mostly true as her life was indeed different, just not in the way I expected. I didn’t realize that someone who never had the sense of sight would have trouble distinguishing colors and shapes. Now that I think about it, that of course makes sense but I never thought of it that way so it was intriguing to watch as she had to relearn everything. I was frightened when she got into her accident, but so happy that Hank was there to find her.

As for Emma, her story led to some of the cutest moments in the episode. Not from her, of course, but from Evan and Paige. I loved watching those two turn into spies to keep an eye on Emma and then to help her out with the Oz situation. I thought it was good that Evan wasn’t as ready to forgive Emma for stealing Hank’s prescription pad. Luckily he and Paige decided their little sister needed some closer supervision. Their caper led to the mystery of Oz finally being solved and I did feel a little bad that Parker started the whole thing just so she could get attention from her mother.

Unfortunately that also led to Cinco discovering the truth about Emma and I didn’t blame him at all for being upset with her. I also wasn’t the least bit surprised that she decided to run off. That girl hasn’t stood up and faced one situation head on. She has instead chosen to be sneaky, lie and cheat her way out of anything she doesn’t like. A part of me wasn’t to say “good riddance” and hope that Hank and Evan let her go, but I know that will never happen. So instead I will hope that they can teach her to take responsibility and learn from her mistakes, rather than running from them.

Evan’s idea to ask Boris to invest in HankMed took an interesting turn by the end of this episode. I thought Evan’s original idea was a good one, but Boris buying Hamptons Heritage (and putting all of HankMed on the Board of Directors) was brilliant. That’s the perfect solution to all of their problems. Oh yeah, except for the fact that Hank said no to the offer. I don’t quite know why he would say that. Does he not want to have anything to do with any board after what one did to him back when he lost his job in the finale? Does he not want to work with Boris in that capacity? I’ll be waiting anxiously until the next episode to find out.

My favorite bits:

Evan making excuses for Emma was making me upset.

“You can’t see Cinco, Henry. His family is suing us. They’ve declared war.”
“I don’t care if they’re invading Shadow Pond. He’s a kid who needs a doctor.”

“Can you give me something for this?”
“Yeah, an x-ray.”

The look Jeremiah shot Evan when Boris said they should have just dropped off the paperwork.

Charlotte opening her eyes to see Hank. Aw.

“It’s nice to see you.”
“It’s nice to be seen.”

Jeremiah asking if there was anything he could do to help Divya, and her smile when he did so.

“So, what do you guys think?”
“You seem a little resentful.”

Finding it interesting that Charlotte could feel shapes but not differentiate them visually.

Charlotte remarking on how much Hank’s face changed when he smiled. More aw.

Paige and Evan as spies. Hilarious.

Totally agreeing with Paige. It is very scary how good Emma is at subterfuge.

Thinking that Chase sounded a little too hyper for comfort.

“We’re going to have to take you to the hospital.”
“Yes! That is awesome!”

Charlotte remarking that speed looked more dangerous than it felt.

Jeremiah asking Boris for Ovaltine. That was awesome. I’m wondering how many people actually know what that is.

Actually jumping when Charlotte hit her head and fell into the tub. Oh noes!

Gah! Was that a worm crawling through Cinco’s arm?? I can’t watch. I can’t watch. I can’t watch.

Emma pointing out that she’d never dated a guy who could spawn worms. Just when I thought the idea of the worms couldn’t get grosser.

Jeremiah’s speech about a broken friendship repairing itself, like a broken bone.

Jeremiah promising Divya that he wouldn’t get on a boat and sail away.

Hank stealing Charlotte’s move and making her close her eyes and listen.

Complete shock that Hank said no to Boris’ offer. What just happened?

Finding out that Emma bought a car like Hank’s. Too cute.

Yep, I knew as soon as Emma drove away that she was, in fact, running away.
