BBC America Plans Spectacular ‘Doctor Who’ Series 8 Launch

BBC America has announced their plans to launch Series 8 of Doctor Who starring Peter Capaldi with a live pre-show and a slew of theatrical events in addition to the show’s August 23 premiere at 8 p.m. ET.

The ‘Doctor Who: Live Pre-Show’ will air at 7:30 p.m. ET followed by ‘Doctor Who: After Who Live’ at 11 p.m. ET with host Chris Hardwick, who many know as the Nerdist. Both shows will include studio guests, writer and actor Mark Gatiss and feature behind-the-scenes footage of the new season. In anticipation of the new season, BBC America and Fathom Events will also host theatrical screening events of ‘Doctor Who Season Premiere: Deep Breath’ in the U.S. The premiere will debut in select cinemas throughout the U.S. and feature 15 minutes of exclusive bonus content. BBC AMERICA will also celebrate the premiere with a slew of ‘Doctor Who’ specials; ‘Doctor Who: The Ultimate Companion’ set to air on Saturday, August 16 at 9 p.m. ET along with ‘The Real History of Science Fiction: Time’ at 10 p.m. ET. The ‘Doctor Who’ Takeover Week marathon will begin on August 18 starting at 8 a.m. ET. with ‘Doctor Who: The Ultimate Time Lord’ to air on Monday, August 18 at 10 p.m. ET.

In the meantime, fans vote for their favorite Doctor Who episodes at beginning August 6. The “Make Your Own Sunday” poll will run during a BBC AMERICA marathon on Sunday, August 24.
