Final Season of ‘Glee’ Gets 13 Episodes

The sixth and final season of FOX’s musical dramedy Glee, which is set to return to the network in mid-season, will consist of 13 episodes instead of the originally planned 24 episodes, which will air consecutively. This smaller episode order isn’t unexpected since the once extremely popular series was trimmed down to 20 episodes last season after the untimely death of lead actor Cory Monteith as well as the fact that FOX did not include the series on the fall schedule at this past May’s upfront presentations in New York City.

In 2013, FOX had committed to a two-season pick-up of the series, but ratings for last season’s episodes faltered after the tribute episode to Monteith’s character Finn, which saw the show’s numbers fall to “very low levels”.

Season 6 of ‘Glee’ will find the show moving to a new location and facing a major creative reboot. According to series creator Ryan Murphy, “It really is a lovely, fitting season that dwells on the original people on the show and what happens to them and how they give back. We’ll revisit some of the new kids that came and went (and) there’s a return of [Jane Lynch’s Sue Sylvester] and [Matthew Morrison’s Will Schuester] in a big way”.

FOX has yet to announce the season premiere date just yet for ‘Glee’, but it will happen sometime mid-season.
