6 Reasons You Should be Watching The Wil Wheaton Project

The Wil Wheaton Project

A new show premiered this past week on Syfy, and I think you should be watching it! The show is called The Wil Wheaton Project, and airs at 10 pm on Tuesday nights, with multiple repeats during the week. All of the nerds and geeks (hereafter neeks) out there know who Wil is – he starred as Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and more recently played Dr. Parrish on Eureka; Fargo’s nemesis. He also has appeared several times as himself on The Big Bang Theory.

As Wil said at the beginning of the show, he is there to talk about science fiction, fantasy and horror genre entertainment. He has a rock solid reputation as a neek, so in my mind is a very logical choice to host a show covering neek happenings in entertainment and elsewhere.

Tongue in Cheek

The Wil Wheaton Project - Chris Hardwick and Will Wheaton

This show has its tongue planted firmly in its cheek! I happen to love self deprecating humor and snark, along with a show that does not take itself too seriously, and this show has plenty of these things. Wil satirizes himself as well as the Syfy channel. As he said, “the hand that feeds me tastes SO good.” And, who else thought that “Shark-Quake” was an inspired idea? Come on, Syfy – when will that one be coming out?

Laugh Out Loud Funny

Humor is a very individual and quirky thing, but I found myself laughing out loud during this show. If you think about it, how many times do you actually laugh out loud when watching a situation comedy? Actually, fewer than I would expect, considering that comedy is in their description! So, this show is already ahead of most of those other half hour offerings on TV.

Neeky Awesomeness

Almost Human Season Finale 2014 Straw Man (2)

This show is unabashedly about and for neeks. Wil’s observations about canceled and other TV shows were spot on – Almost Human was NOT given a chance – and despite having watched all the episodes of Star-Crossed, I had not noticed the misuse of a walkie-talkie until he pointed it out!

It’s Just a Half Hour!

For all you viewers out there saying, “But I don’t have time to watch another show,” sorry, but I’m about to shut that excuse down. This show is only 30 minutes long, and if you tape it and fast forward through the commercials, it is even shorter! There is no excuse for not watching due to time constraints!

Repeats Abound

Like most programming on the Syfy channel, this program repeats multiple times during the week. So, even if you mess up the DVR settings, you still can watch it! I mean, seriously, even if there are conflicts with other TV shows – I am a Fargo fan too after all – you can tape the repeats and all is right with the universe! Even better, the episodes can also be found on the Syfy website.

Awesome Guest Stars

Wil Wheaton and Felicia Day - The Wil Wheaton Project

The first episode had Chris Hardwick as a guest. I happen to think he is just adorable, so no complaints there. But, the second episode is going to have Felicia Day as a guest! Now that is just plain awesome. Have I used the word awesome enough in this section?

So, what are you waiting for? Did you watch the first episode? If not, will you give this show a chance and watch the next episode? Let me know what you think of the show and if you will watch it in the comments section below.
