TV Buzz: ‘True Blood’ Starts the Goodbye Tour, ABC Family Touts a Strong Summer Lineup and More

This summer is shaping up to be the perfect season for horror lovers. Between the last season of True Blood, the psychological distress of The Leftovers and a return visit to Hemlock Grove, all manner of scares are available for the discerning viewer. However, if you are looking for programming that does not feature vampires, werewolves, angry angels or mass disappearances, check out the last two entries in this Tuesday’s TV Buzz for laughs and good, old-fashioned human dramas.

True Blood: “Goodbyes Suck” But the Season 7 Poster and Full-Length Trailer Do Not

There is a reckoning coming in the final season of True Blood. The HBO series is aiming to go out as bloody, sexy and with as many bad southern accents as it came in with. The full length trailer goes full circle from the series’ romantic beginnings to the slaughter on the horizon. Sookie has transformed from a naive small town girl into a powerful woman ready to protect the living. Are you ready to see how her journey ends?

True Blood season seven premieres Sunday, June 22nd at 9PM on HBO.

Syfy’s ‘Dominion’ Takes Flight in New Trailer

Syfy continues to embrace darker series with Dominion, the story of angels who “raise Hell on Earth.” The latest trailer gives us a closer look at the characters, including one female character who was most certainly doomed by the lead swearing he “wouldn’t know what to do if anything happened to her.” Storytelling 101: something will immediately happen to her. Are you sold on this apocalyptic angel drama?

Dominion premieres Thursday, June 19th at 9/8c on Syfy.

Netflix Wants You to Return to ‘Hemlock Grove’

I have to hand it to Netflix, the design for their Hemlock Grove season two poster is a perfect example of minimalist horror. The image is tricky, inviting us to see the haunting individual pieces that form an even more horrifying full picture. It is the perfect image to welcome us back to the small town plagued with all manner of horrors– including a potential love triangle this season. Commence shuddering now.

Hemlock Grove season two will stream exclusively on Netflix beginning July 11th.

‘The Leftovers’ Get Angry in New Key Art and Teaser

The Leftovers looks like a downer, between the gray poster with angry wall smashing and the five stages of grief themed teaser, I already want these people to cheer up. However, the teaser offers up one saving grace: Christopher Eccleston. No, he does not look any better off than the rest of these leftover people, but he is Christopher Eccleston and it has been way too long since he had a decent part.

The Leftovers premiere Sunday, June 22nd at 10/9c on HBO.

El Rey Network Reveals First ‘Matador’ Trailer

El Rey Network is preparing to roll out their second original series, Matador, this summer. The trailer reveals Matador is the story of a spy who is posing as a soccer player. Are you sold on this unusual premise?

Matador premieres July 2014.

ABC Family Summer 2014 Sizzle Reel

A few minor hiccups aside, ABC Family has built itself a solid lineup of must see dramas and throwback comedies. This summer will bring new seasons of The Fosters (Lena and Stef are having a baby!), Switched at Birth (Emmett and Bay are totally getting back together), Pretty Little Liars (I don’t watch this show, but it always looks exciting) and new series Chasing Life, Young & Hungry and Mystery Girls. I have a feeling ABC Family is going to dominate quite a few people’s viewing schedules this summer (including mine).

TV Land Teases ‘Jennifer Falls’ Starring Jessica Walter

Jessica Walters looks right at home in the latest Jennifer Falls teaser. The amazing Arrested Development actress is holding a glass of wine in her hand as she provides the truth behind her daughter Jennifer’s (Jaime Pressly) sugarcoated retelling of her recent misfortunes. If the series is as sharp as the teasers, TV Land could have another hit on their hands.

Jennifer Falls premieres Wednesday, June 4th at 10:30 p.m. on TV Land.

Were you impressed by the new True Blood trailer? Intrigued by Syfy’s stab at an angelic apocalypse? Or are you just ready for ABC Family to start rolling out the good stuff? Let us know in the comments.
