‘Grimm’ Season 3 Interview: Sasha Roiz and Claire Coffee Tease the Shocking Finale, Playing Bad Guys and More

Grimm Season 3 Episode 20 My Fair Wesen (1)

After a year that including the birth of a powerful baby, wedding preparations and much more, Grimm season three will conclude tonight, Friday, May 16th at 9PM on NBC with a cliffhanger guaranteed to shock fans. At the center of it will be new mom and perpetual big bad Adalind and Captain Renard. TV Equals recently joined in a call with the characters’ portrayers Claire Coffee and Sasha Roiz to discuss just what kind of havoc will be wreaked in the finale.

Why Nick and Juliette Will Never Be the Same

After having her baby taken, Adalind is not going to be in a forgiving mood. The new mother is going to take the form of Juliette and…well, let’s just say things will get complicated for Nick and Juliette. “She’s incredibly motivated to get her baby back,” Coffee explained. “Her baby is – you know, she’s got tunnel vision where that is concerned because I think she just feels a little bit aimless and lost without this child. She’s learned how to love another human being. I don’t think she fully understands the ramifications of what she’s about to do, but she feels within her right to do it. And yes, it causes a massive rift in Nick and Juliette’s relationship and it changes them — maybe forever, we’ll just have to wait and see.”

Coffee, who loves chatting with fans on Twitter, is worried about what kind of reaction she will receive after the episode airs. “I’m a little terrified for this Friday,” Coffee admitted. “I think people always say like, “Oh, we love to hate your character,” and it may just turn to like, “Oh we hate you so much.””

The Twisted Relationship Between Adalind and Renard

Adalind and Renard’s relationship has had its fair share of twists and turns. However, Renard’s latest betrayal will either even the score between the two characters or push Adalind over the edge. Roiz and Coffee seemed to love the dark, co-dependent bond their characters share as much as the fans do. “Their relationship is just so absolutely crazy that it’s really fun to always be challenged with that,” Roiz explained. “Because just when you think it can’t get any crazier, they manage to write something new in. So it always remains a little challenging every single time we face off.”

By the end of tonight’s episode, the duo will find themselves in a truly scary place. At least it will be scary for Renard. “Adalind has gone too far this time and I think by the end of the episode Renard sees pure rage,” Roiz said. “And it could get pretty nasty between the two of them. But you know, that’s what I think. Then again there’s always some twists and turns along the way. But certainly you find him at his wits end with her.”

How Far Will Adalind Go To Get Her Daughter Back?

Separating Adalind from her baby was a bad move on the part of Nick and company. Their actions will lead to serious issues during what should be a happy time: Rosalee and Monroe’s wedding. Coffee sees Adalind’s desperation as a reasonable motivation for her actions. While the character has always had a villainous bent, having the one person she has ever truly love ripped away from her sends Adalind into a spiral that leave nothing but destruction in her path.

“I don’t think it’s revenge, I think she wants her baby back,” Coffee commented on Adalind’s actions. “Her baby gives her a place in the world really. I mean her relationship with Renard notwithstanding, she doesn’t have any allies, any friends, no job, really nothing.” Coffee also added that Adalind feels “justified” in going after Nick since she believes the only way to get her baby back is to go through with what Viktor has asked.

Fans can expect Adalind to only become a bigger opponent in the finale. “She’s a more dangerous villain, I think, because she’s operating of her own accord, and she has this powerful motivation now,” Coffee said. “And, you know, they say like, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” I think she knows one way of getting what she wants and that’s death and destruction via magic spells.”

Are you ready to see how Adalind’s plans affect the future of Grimm and Renard?
