Last December, NBC aired a live production of ‘The Sound of Music’ with country singer-actress Carrie Underwood and True Blood alum Stephen Moyer in the lead roles. The network also announced in January that they would be putting a live production of ‘Peter Pan’ into motion, as we reported here.

During this past Monday’s upfront presentation to New York advertisers, NBC announced they would be adding yet another classic musical to its slowly growing roster of live production: The Music Man

‘The Music Man’ is a Broadway original from 1957 that was adapted into the critically acclaimed 1962 film that starred actor Robert Preston and actress Shirley Jones (best known for her role in the classic 70’s series ‘The Partridge Family’) in the lead roles. The musical centers on a con man who poses as a boys’ band organizer and leader and sells band instruments and uniforms to the naive Iowa townsfolk, promising to train the members of the new band.

A stage revival of ‘The Music Man’ took place in 2000, going on to be nominated for eight Tony Awards and then hit the small screen in 2003 with actor Matthew Broderick (Two and a Half Men), Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies and Glee), Victor Garber (Alias and Eli Stone) and ‘Saturday Night Live’ alum Molly Shannon as part of the cast.

This live production will, according to a report at The Hollywood Reporter, follow the “network’s December 4 production of ‘Peter Pan’, but has no timetable or cast set just yet.
