A&E Orders ‘The Returned’ Remake From ‘Lost’ Executive Producer

The living dead are invading our television sets.

A&E announced they have ordered 10 episodes of The Returned from Lost and Bates Motel executive producer Carlton Cuse and True Blood‘s Raelle Tucker. The series is based on the critical French sensation The Returned which was itself based on a film. Adding more confusion to the many series about dead loved ones reappearing out of thin air, ABC has a hit on their hands with Resurrection which is based on a book called The Returned, but has nothing to do with the French series (got all that?).

“‘The Returned’ has the potential to be one of the most compelling drama series on cable, thanks to phenomenal scripts written by Carlton and Raelle,” said David McKillop, General Manager and Executive Vice President of A&E Network. “We look forward to seeing their vision brought to life on screen.”

The Returned follows the journey of a small town where a group of dead residents return to the fold bringing with them mysteries and emotional upheaval. Casting for the series is underway, but no premiere date has been set.

(One more bit of trivia: while Cuse will be bringing people back from the dead, his former co-executive producer on Lost, Damon Lindelof, will be disappearing 2% of the Earth’s population for HBO in The Leftovers this summer. At this point, that is the only way to keep the TV landscape in balance.)
