5 Reasons You Will Fall In Love With ‘Granite Flats’

Granite Flats cast

A few weeks ago, I received an email letting me know that BUYtv’s original series, Granite Flats, was returning for its second season in April. To be honest, I hadn’t heard of the series until that email, but I decided to look into it and since the whole first season (a total of eight episodes) was available on the BUYtv website, I started watching it. Two days later, I had finished the entire season and was completely in love with it. As luck would have it, I was provided with a screener for the second season premiere, which I didn’t waste anytime watching as well. Now I can’t wait for more and I’m here to give you 5 reasons why you will fall in love with Granite Flats as well.

But before I get to that, how about I tell you more about Granite Flats. The series is set in the small town of Granite Flats, Colorado, in the 1960s during the Cold War. There we soon get to know a group of school children who become fast friends and decide to investigate a mysterious explosion. In addition, we meet the Chief of Police, who is also on the case, and the staff at the local Army base and VA hospital, where a secret experiment is happening. The first season has a good mix of mystery and drama as we get to know the characters and the town of Granite Flats. As for the second season, it is shaping to be another exciting eight episodes starting a year after the events of the first season finale.

Now that you know about Granite Flats, here are the 5 reasons you will love it:

The Kids

You might not know them yet, but you will come to adore the trio that is Timmy (Charlie Plummer), Madeleine (Malia Tyler) and Arthur (Jonathan Morgan Heit). These three become fast friends and start their own private detective agency. Seeing them solve cases is my favorite part of the series. They are ingenious, smart and sweet. And you can expect even more fun cases in season 2.

Chief of Police

With his quiet confidence, Chief of Police John Sanders (Richard Gunn) is definitely the heart of Granite Flats. There is just something about him that will keep you watching. My personal favorite scenes are the ones between him and Timmy, his son.

The Mystery

I like a good mystery, and Granite Flats gives us just that. As we engross ourselves in the lives of the characters, you get even more excitement trying to solve the season 1 mystery. And while a lot has been revealed by the end of it, there is more to uncover and explore in season 2.

The Setting

The show doesn’t shy away from using the realities of living during the Cold War in America, which adds yet another layer to the story and creates a more exciting drama to watch.

Feel Good

BUYtv’s tagline is “see the good in the world” and I think Granite Flats really reflects this positive outlook. As much as I love all my gritty and dark shows (Game of Thrones I’m ready for you!), I also like sweeter shows that put a smile on my face and make me feel happy. And that’s exactly what Granite Flats makes me feel… Happy!

Bonus: Guest Stars

Need even another reason? This second season will feature some fun guest stars including Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future I-III, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Taxi), Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride, Psych), Ivan Sergei (The Break Up, Jack & Jill) and Finola Hughes (General Hospital).

Granite Flats returns for its second season this Sunday, April 6th at 9pm ET on BUYtv. In the meantime you can check out some cast photos below, as well as a recap of Season 1.
