Psych Season 8 Review “A Touch of Sweevil” – Outrageous Nonsensical Buffoonery

Psych Season 8 Episode 8 A Touch of Sweevil (12)

In this episode of Psych, called “A Touch of Sweevil,” Lassie enlists Shawn and Gus’ help and allows them to go to levels of shenanigans not yet seen on this show.

Oh Psych, it’s episodes like this one that remind me how much I am going to miss you after the final two episodes have aired and there are no more Shawn and Gus adventures for me to watch.

Considering everything that they’ve done on this show, from musicals to tributes to other TV shows, it’s hard to think that there would have been something we hadn’t yet seen on this series. But it turned out there was. We hadn’t yet seen Shawn and Gus not only allowed to crank their craziness up to 11, but asked to do so by Lassie. If I thought the boys were funny before, it was nothing compared to the hilarity that ensued when they purposely turned on the crazy.

As funny as Shawn and Gus were, nothing prepared me for how entertaining it would be to watch Lassie get in on the action. For so long we’ve seen him growl and grumble and roll his eyes at Shawn and Gus and while that actually was its own special kind of fun, Lassie joining in was about ten times better. Was it me or did he actually seem to enjoy himself when he got to play along with the boys? I saw some real smiles from him when he ran into the interrogation room to yell at a ghost or when he ordered Brannigan to put out an APB on a witch. I’m sure it’s probably too much to ask that Lassie continue to enjoy Shawn and Gus’ antics, but it sure was fun to watch while it lasted.

The best part was the fact that after all was said and done, their little plan didn’t work and Brannigan turned out to be pretty darn crazy herself. Not only that, but her crazy matched Lassie’s crazy (Aw, matching firearms) and now he has found his female clone. As sad as I still am that Juliet isn’t around, Brannigan did grow on me in this episode and I’m interested to see how she continues to work with Shawn, Gus and the rest of the gang.

Only two more episodes left. (Insert sad face here)

My favorite bits:

Shawn throwing lunch meat at a picture.

Finding it interesting that Shawn could actually make a bowl of Suck It Soup sound pretty good. How did he do that?

Finding the new head detective just a weeeeeeee bit creepy.

A handcuff necklace as a gesture of platonic kindness? I think she needs to look up at least one of those words.

All the many, many ways Shawn played with poor Fishbeck’s name.

Shawn telling a ghost to suck it.

Shawn and Gus not catching on to the fact that the crowd was reacting to Stein’s death. Oops.

Gus sympathetically crying with a ghost.

Lassie giving Shawn and Gus permission to crank their antics up to an 11. YES.

Lassie’s little smile when Shawn and Gus immediately took his request to heart. That was amazing.

Gus reeling Shawn in like a fish. I laughed so hard, I forgot how to breathe for a minute.

Lassie happily joining in to help Shawn suck up some extra life force.

“Man, we got lapped by the supernaturals?” – I have a feeling only fellow Supernatural fans found that as funny as I did.

Deciding that “sweevil” was the best word. Ever.

Lassie looking for a ghost in the interrogation room.

“There are no consultants allowed in the interview room without the presence of an authorized Shaman.” – Forgot how to breathe again.

James Earl Craig showing Shawn and Gus his apartment.. in a bathroom stall. The most surprising part was that it was actually a pretty nice place.

“This is stall nicer than my apartment in college.”
“You know you lived at home.”
“I’m just trying to be nice.”

Lassie ordering Brannigan to put out an APB for a witch on a broom. Ha!

“Well gosh, golly, you should probably get over there, don’t ya know.” – Seriously, Lassie is killing me in this episode.

Shawn and Gus claiming that they were turned into a rubber tree and a chicken, respectively, and the fact that Lassie was egging them on with a smile.

The fact that they left in what had to have been a real laugh from James Roday when Dule Hill kept on flapping his arms like a chicken.

Laughing my own arse off when Gus started pecking at Shawn.

“Let’s unite, like a sad version of the Avengers.”

Shawn, Gus and Hazel singing to the spirits. Amazeballs.

“Lassie, you look positively sweevil.”

Shawn and Gus lamenting the fact that they had to work Lassie and his clone. Haha! Turn about is fair play, fellas.
