Controversial Actor Isaiah Washington Returns to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

Isaiah Washington

Back in 2006 when the ABC mega-hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy was in its third season, actor Isaiah Washington allegedly made a homophobic slur in regards to his castmate T.R. Knight and then that slur was repeated during a cast appearance at the Golden Globes. This created a maelstrom of outrage within the entertainment industry, and obviously with the cast of the hit series, causing Washington to receive his walking papers from the show that had virtually made him a household name in more ways than one.

But now that his former on-screen love Dr. Christina Yang (series regular Sandra Oh) is leaving the series, it seems that the folks behind ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ are planning for Yang to come “full circle” with Washington’s on-screen persona Dr. Preston Burke returning. He will be seen in one May episode that series creator Shonda Rhimes stated to TV Guide “is important…to Christina’s journey (to) unfold exactly as it should…(and) Burke is vital to that journey. He gives her story that full-circle moment we need to properly say goodbye”.

Since leaving ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, Washington has appeared in the short-lived remake of ‘Bionic Woman’, the critically acclaimed independent film ‘Blue Caprice’ and he will be a series regular in the new CW futuristic drama ‘The 100’ that will debut on March 19.

In the meantime, the next new episode of the current, tenth season of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ will air on March 13 on ABC at 9/8c.
