Psych Season 8 Review “Shawn and Gus Truck Things Up” – Important Milestones

Psych Season 8 Episode 7 Shawn and Gus Truck... (9)

In this episode of Psych, called “Shawn and Gus Truck Things Up,” the boys are on the case of a dead food truck driver and find themselves passing a couple of important milestones along the way.

We’re down to just three more episode of Psych (insert Gus scream of terror here) and things are really moving along in the story of the fake psychic detective and his crazy cast of cohorts. The funny in this one came from Shawn and Gus trying to operate their own food truck, called Mash & Grab, so they could help find the killer of one of their favorite food truck owners. Did they have any experience? Nope. Did that stop them from trying anyway? Not a chance. Did they come up with the worst best menu ever? I think so. Fruit Loop Quesadillas anyone?

Underneath the funny, there was some seriousness. Though there were still plenty of laughs, Lassie and Marlowe preparing for the arrival of their baby was a huge milestone. Who’d a thunk, all those years ago in the first season, that Lassie would ever be a daddy? Of course, I would never have predicted that the baby would be delivered in the back of a dirty food truck by Henry and into a pile of food wrappers – but that’s all part of the silliness of this show.

Another serious life change came when Shawn found out that his father was selling his childhood home. Henry decided that he needed to do something different with his life, but I’m not sure what that will be. Henry seemed confident that Shawn would be fine with the upheaval because he had Gus and Juliet, but really Shawn doesn’t have Juliet right now so I understood why he took it so hard at first. But it was a testament to how much Shawn has matured that he was able to give up his home and his room to Lassie and his new family. Of course Shawn didn’t let the place go without one final act of childish rebellion, and of course Gus didn’t let the toy go without his own act of childish rebellion, but it just wouldn’t be them if they didn’t do that.

And then there were three. What do the next episodes hold for our fabulous duo and their friends? I don’t know, but I can’t wait to find out.

My favorite bits:

“This is how you cater a crime scene.”

Shawn and Gus losing their junk when they saw who the murder victim was. and that the last of the secret sauce was being carted away.

The boys’ fantasy of the good times with the tacos.

Finding out that Lassie hates food trucks. This doesn’t surprise me at all.

Lassie discovering that fining all of the food trucks was a bad idea when the owners refused to help his investigation.

“I’m simply too busy right now to maintain my usual level of disdain for you two.”

Finding Gus’ comments much more disturbing than Shawn just telling Marlowe she was as big as a house.

Gus trying to park that truck. Looks like me in the Target parking lot. Just sayin.’

Yes! Full theme song!

Shawn ordering Gus to drop trous and take a selfie of his buns.

“What are prairie balls?”
“Don’t worry about it, Gus.”

Shawn and Gus getting a D in their inspection. Oops.

Shawn’s dad is selling the house?? Noooo!

“Are you selling my room, too?”

Gus missing the fact that Shawn was, in fact, actually choking.

Finding out that Shawn used to steal all of Gus’ toys. Interesting friendship, theirs.

“You think we can bench that much?”
“Shawn that is cruel and disrespectful.”

Lassie and his practice baby. Poor little thing.

Lassie pointing out that he may have dropped the practice baby but Marlowe was the one who put it into the dryer. How does one do that?

Marlowe kind of making a Fruit Loop Quesadilla sound pretty good.

I knew it! I knew Marlowe was in labor in that food truck.

“I’m gonna need hot water and lots and lots of towels.”
“How about warm soda and five menus?”

“I will cut one of you!”

“You go to hell!”
“Okeydoke!” – Lassie during that whole scene was so perfect.

Shawn finding out that his father had sold his childhood home to Lassie.

Gus waking up in time to pass out again.

Aw! Lassie is a daddy to a girl. Oh man, I feel bad for the first guy that tries to date her in about 20 years.

Shawn saying he hoped that Lassie and Marlowe’s kid enjoyed his old room more than he did. Aw.

Shawn escaping out the window.

Shawn giving the baby his old toy. So cute. well at least until Gus stole it back.
