On TV Tonight, Saturday, 3/01/14: Film Independent Spirit Awards, When Calls the Heart and More

TV Equals Midseason 2014 Saturday

Our Picks

The Happy Face Killer – 8pm Lifetime
I don’t watch The Mentalist, but I am pretty sure this movie has the exact same plot as The Mentalist, minus the dead family unless they left that part out of the summary. (Also, as is usual with Lifetime, it’s based on a true and disturbing story.)

Film Independent Spirit Awards – 10pm IFC
The independent film awards are so much more fun than The Oscars. Remember when Garfunkel & Oates performed that awesome song sending up the depressing nominees? That would never happen at The Oscars. This year the funny and versatile Patton Oswalt is hosting, and I would gladly watch him host the stamp collecting awards.

The World’s Oddest Animal Couples – 10pm Animal Planet
I love this show. I’m sorry, but there is nothing cuter than say a chimpanzee who is besties with a dog or a turtle and cat who bond over a love of napping. Yes, it may not be a hip choice for Saturday night, but if you have been reading these posts for more than a week, you have probably realized hip, I am not.

Pokemon the Series – 8:30am Cartoon Network
