Lost Girl Season 4 Review “La Fae Epoque”

Lost Girl Season 4 La Fae Epoque

I am starting to feel like Lost Girl has lost its direction. This week, Bo took a trip into Dyson’s psyche to uncover why the Una Mens had imprisoned him. It was a hot mess that mixed her conscious with his, and resulted in a disturbing two/three way with Dyson, Bo and Lauren. The jaunt down memory lane unveiled the duplicity of the Una Mens and uncovered magical slippers. At this point, it’s not clear what the point is of the Una Mens storyline, why Trick is MIA, when (if ever) we’re going to get somewhere with unmasking the Wanderer, and whether we can set aside the yawn-fest that is the Bo/Lauren/Dyson love triangle.

There were just many things that did not work in this episode. First, do the Una Mens know that Dyson has the magic slipper, and if so, why would they want to kill him? If not, why would they want to kill him? Second, why was the oracle necessary? Lauren managed to hop right into the action without her help. Also, what is the point of the red string if something as lame as a Snow White-style kiss can bring someone out? None of that worked.

I’m still not clear on the purpose of the magic slippers. We’re told in the beginning that they were made by “He Who Wanders.” Why is the Wanderer making magic shoes? Dyson is supposed to retrieve the slippers and give them to Trick, but ends up putting them on fake Lauren’s feet. They reject her (huh?) and turn her into a killing machine. She is ultimately put down and Dyson hides the slippers. That is until he offers one up to the Una Mens to spare Kenzi’s life. Why do the Una Mens want the slippers? I don’t know and I’m starting to not care. I am frustrated that we are wasting so much time with the Una Mens. I would much rather find out who the Wanderer is and have some drama with that. Like the Morrigan, I’m more irritated at this point that the Una Mens are hanging around.

I also feel like Bo is way boring at the moment. How about some fighting and action that doesn’t involve getting it on with Dyson and Lauren? I’m sorry but the scene with Bo as Dyson doing Lauren who is not Lauren…it was gross – not sexy. It was like Lauren is the chewed up gum passed from one mouth to another. Enough already. I’d rather Bo not be with either of them at this point and go back to her badass succubus ways.

I think the problem is that the mythology is dominating this season, but it’s a mess. There’s no clear direction and things are taking way too long to be revealed. I never thought I’d prefer a more episodic storyline, but I kind of miss Bo and Kenzi acting as monster private investigators. At least that felt more fun.
