Film Star Jada Pinkett Smith Joins FOX’s ‘Gotham’ Pilot

Film star Jada Pinkett Smith, wife of film star Will Smith, is coming back to the small screen on the FOX pilot Gotham, which is based on just some of characters featured in DC Comics.

‘Gotham’ will explore the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon, to be played by actor Ben McKenzie (‘Southland’ and ‘The O.C.’), who is still a detective and has yet to meet Batman, and the villains who made Gotham City famous. One of those villains, Fish Mooney, a sadistic gangster boos and nightclub owner who has the street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book, will be played Pinkett Smith.

Among her film credits are ‘The Matrix’ franchise, ‘Collateral’, ‘Ali’ and ‘Scream 2’ and she also recently appeared in the TV series ‘HawthoRNe’ and ‘A Different World’. She is also the executive producer on ‘The Queen Latifah Show’.

Other cast members of the ‘Gotham’ team include Donal Logue (‘Terriers’ and ‘Vikings’) as Detective Harvey Bullock, Sean Pertwee (‘Elementary) as Alfred Pennyworth and Robin Lord Taylor (‘Accepted’ and ‘Another Earth’) as Oswald Cobblepot otherwise known as The Penguin.

The pilot script was written by Bruno Heller (‘The Mentalist’ and ‘Rome’), who will also serve as an executive producer alongside Danny Cannon (‘CSI’ and ‘Nikita’), who will direct the pilot.

‘Gotham’ has yet to be picked up as a series by FOX, but it is certainly one of the most buzzed-about new developments by the major networks for the new TV season.
