‘Drop Dead Diva’ Cancelled by Lifetime

Drop Dead Diva-Brooke

At the end of season four of the fan favorite Lifetime dramedy Drop Dead Diva back in September 2012 where the series left off with a pretty big cliffhanger, the network rather unceremoniously cancelled the series. But never let it be said that devoted fans and an even more dedicated series creator cannot make a difference. After several months of closed-doors meetings, the network and studio worked out terms that allowed the show to return for a fifth season; much to the delight of the fans.

Sadly, though, a second (or perhaps a third) life is not in the cards for the series that focuses on vain aspiring model Deb Dobkins who suddenly dies in an accident only to find her soul returning in the body of a brilliant, plus-sized attorney Jane Bingum (series lead Brooke Elliott), as the series has been official cancelled and there will be no coming back from the dead this time.

But, there is a silver lining in the bad news: the series will be back for a sixth season that will consist of 13 episodes and, if the TV gods can be kind, the series will get to come to a satisfactory closure.

The sixth season will open with a bang with a two-hour season premiere, picking up where the cliffhanger ending from this past November left fans wondering if Grayson (series regular Jackson Hurst) would finally figure out the truth about Jane especially after Brittany aka Old Jane (guest star Natalie Hall) revealed that Jane isn’t who he thinks she is. The final season will also feature guest appearances by Colin Egglesfield (‘The Client List’), Virginia Williams (‘Fairly Legal’) and Corbin Bleu (‘High School Musical’ franchise).

The two-hour sixth, and final, season premiere of ‘Drop Dead Diva’ will air on Lifetime on Sunday, March 23 at 9/8c.
