Hart of Dixie Season 3 Review “Act Naturally”

Act Naturally

It’s the last episode of Hart of Dixie before it’s time-slot change and, while ‘Act Naturally’ wasn’t a particularly earth-shattering visit to Bluebell, it did raise a lot of new issues for Zoe and the rest of the gang to deal with when they return. George and Tansy are over all over again, AnnaBeth and Lavon aren’t headed for a reunion anytime soon and, much to Zoe and Joel’s distress, Zoe’s mother is planning to move to Bluebell in order to compete with the Wilkes for a slot in her life.

It’s a nice change to see family members fighting over Zoe for a change when, just a year ago, she practically had to beg for a little bit of familial affection. It almost makes me want Wade and Vivian to make a go of things (I said almost), just so Zoe can have her level-headed cousin around for good. My guess is that if and when things go the way of Crazy Earl’s ‘Zade’ prophecies, however, Vivian Wilkes may want a little less to do with Bluebell – especially it’s retired town doctor. Maybe there’s a way for Zoe to get the guy and the family?

Speaking of family, Wade got his own happy ending this week when Earl cleaned up his act in time to welcome Vivian with open arms. This was a lovely moment for Wade after everything we’ve seen his do for his dad, but it was bitter-sweet for Zoe/Wade fans after seeing him so passionately object to their breakup just a few minutes earlier. I think he spoke for us all there for a moment and, though I might sound like a broken record, I’m truly counting the days until the show feels it’s time to reunite our favorite couple. It was just so nostalgic seeing Zoe wake up at her old place!

One couple that probably isn’t going to be reuniting right now is Lavon and AnnaBeth, which went the opposite way to my predictions last week. I thought maybe one grand gesture of love might win her back but, then again, that was probably forgetting the fundamental flaw in Lavon’s character. He isn’t one for wising up and making the big moves and, while AnnaBeth briefly returned to the prim and proper dignity that admittedly suits her so well, she eventually let him know exactly how she feels. I have an inkling that Lemon’s return might push this storyline along a little bit, but can’t decide whether that’s a good or a bad thing.
