Hart of Dixie Season 3 Review “Should’ve Been a Cowboy”

Boys Round Here

What are the Hart of Dixie writers thinking depriving us of AnnaBeth and Lavon so soon after every other supposedly ‘end-game’ couple were torn apart (I’m genuinely concerned for Tom and Wanda right now, to be honest)? Is it for more drama, or maybe they want to rekindle things between Lemon and Lavon once the former returns from real-life maternity leave? Whatever the reason, it’s a real bummer and, if we hadn’t been treated to that George/Tansy kiss towards the end of the episode, it would have been even worse.

The fact is that, without couples to truly root for (as I’ve always said, Joel is fine as a placeholder, but not ship war material), Hart of Dixie is really floundering this year. The only thing keeping it afloat right now is the sweet three-way friendship between Zoe, Joel and Wade but, with only the pre-Christmas kiss keeping Zade fans going, there will soon come a point when that isn’t enough. To top it off, the weekly plots are getting weaker and weaker, also, with the adventure in ‘Should’ve been a Cowboy’ basically centered on Bluebell losing weight and Joel falling in bro-love with Wade.

But, disregarding the heartbreaking conclusion to AnnaBeth and Lavon’s romance (though it’s completely possible that some grand gesture next week could get that back on track), none of it means anything. When the weekly plots are at least fun and entertaining, it’s easy to ignore the fact that the show is largely inconsequential, but that’s stopped being the case more and more lately. I just wish that Lemon would return to bring some of the classic shenanigans back as, while they’re trying to plug the gap with Cricket and the other Belles, it just isn’t the same.
