WGN America Orders Event Series ‘Ten Commandments;’ Announces ‘Manhattan’

In addition to announcing the premiere date for Salem, WGN America also announced detailed news about their upcoming Ten Commandments event series and Manhattan, a scripted drama exploring the race to build the first atomic bomb. Manhattan is set for a July 2014 premiere.

“We’re transitioning from a network with regional roots to one with a true national identity, driven by provocative, brand-defining programming of the highest quality,” said Matt Cherniss, President and General Manager, WGN America and Tribune Studios in a statement. “With this relaunch and our expanded portfolio of original content, we expect to significantly strengthen our position as a destination for viewers.”

Ten Commandments is taking an innovative approach by allowing a different director to take on a single commandment to create a ten-night event. Five of the directors attached to the project are Gus Van Sant, Lee Daniels, Jim Sheridan, Wes Craven and Michael Cera. Each director will put a modern spin on their commandment. Academy Award® winning producer Bruce Cohen (“American Beauty,” “Silver Linings Playbook”) and Bob Weinstein are set to produce.

A premiere date for Ten Commandments has not yet been set.
