White Collar Season 5 Review “Live Feed” – Trust No One

White Collar Season 5 Episode 10 Live Feed (4)

In this episode of White Collar, Neal is forced to balance keeping a dangerous agreement with Hagan while working a case with Peter that ultimately leads to a shocking discovery.

Boy, I am two-for-two this season. I totally called Siegel getting shot and I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that Rebecca was up to no good. This entire episode, I just had this feeling that she was somehow in on her own kidnapping and I was quite happy to see that I was right. I feel bad for Neal though. After this relationship, I wouldn’t blame the guy if he swore off getting involved with anyone else for a very long time.

Throughout most of this episode, Neal and Peter were basically at each other’s throats. It’s thrilling to see Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay play those scenes because they add so much fire to them that it feels like my TV is practically crackling sometimes. But at the same time, it’s rough to see Neal and Peter at odds when we all know that, deep down, they really do care about each other. Perhaps that’s what makes them both so angry – caring so much and wanting your friend to agree with you. Neal couldn’t understand why Peter didn’t appreciate what he did for him to keep him out of jail and Peter couldn’t understand why Neal didn’t realize what his actions would do to his convictions. That’s what happens when two best friends are so unalike – friction.

So while I am sad for Neal that Rebecca turned out to be some sort of an imposter with evil intentions that aren’t clear yet, I’m glad that what she did brought Neal and Peter back on the same team somewhat. After Hagan was shot and they were tracking down the killer and breaking into the apartment, it almost felt like old times again. Do I think that Peter and Neal are going to miraculously get over what happened? No, but I think they are going to have to work together now and that can’t be a bad thing.

My favorite bits:

Listening to Peter’s thoughts while he ran. So much for a relaxing run. Poor Peter.

Clinton knowing that something was wrong and totally picking up on the “cycle.”

“You always take responsibility for him. Maybe it’s time he starts taking responsibility for himself. That’s all I’m going to say.”

“You’re not wearing handcuffs and an orange onesie, that’s something.”

Neal finding out that Hagan had kidnapped Rebecca. Is it wrong that I am still suspicious of her?

Hagan only giving Neal 30 minutes. Whoa.

“This could be a trap.”
“I don’t care, I’m getting her back no matter what.”

Mozzie actually suggesting Neal ask for Peter’s help. Not that I don’t think Peter could help, but Mozzie suggesting it was a surprise.

Elle asking Peter if he’d made peace with Neal and not just with what Neal did.

“When it comes to work, I can’t let emotions cloud my judgment.”
“I think you already have.”

“If anything happens to her, or him, you’ll see what I’m capable of.” – I love how he added Mozzie into his threat.

“You’re an odd little creature.”
“Yeah and you’re a stock thug.” – Loving the interactions between Mozzie and Hagan.

“I reserve my leaps of faith for space exploration and the chupacabra.”

Neal putting the tracker on Peter. Sneaky, but brilliant.

“I’m flattered you think me wise.”
“I was referring to Neal.”

Mozzie finding out that Hagan knew his real name. Uh oh.

Neal hearing the conversation between Peter and Clinton. That was pretty brutal.

“You are…”
“A particular kind of bastard? Yeah, I’ve heard that one before.”

Neal burning the codex anyway. Whoa! I didn’t see that coming.

Finding out that Mozzie was the new codex. Love it.

Peter’s little smirk when he showed Hagan the “CH” on the painting.

Peter finding out that Neal was with Hagan all afternoon. Oh, this is so not going to end well.

Hagan getting shot. What. The. Hell?

Literally pumping my fist in the air and nearly leaping off my couch (no easy feat with a laptop on my lap) when they found out it was Rebecca’s apartment. Did I call that or what?
