On TV Tonight, Sunday, 12/29/13: Call the Midwife Holiday Special, Treme and More

TV Equals Schedules Fall 2013 Sunday

Our Picks

Call the Midwife Holiday Special 2013 – PBS 8:30pm *Check local listings.
Chummy’s back! Chummy’s back! There’s also a bomb scare, an outbreak and a Christmas pageant to look forward to. Oh, and a potential wedding that is sure to make fans swoon as long as it goes off without a hitch (and by fans I mean me, but, you know, also you guys). This is the only new Call the Midwife we’re getting until season three premieres in March so savor it while you can, fellow Midwife junkies.

Treme – 9pm HBO
Treme signs off for good tonight. I haven’t had a chance to watch David Simon’s ode to New Orleans myself, but I have a feeling when I do I’ll love his love letter to the resilient city. For those of you who have stuck with the show all this time, may the finale be everything you want (and need) it to be.

Cutthroat Kitchen – 10pm Food Network
Food Network is producing increasingly bizarre competition series, and Cutthroat Kitchen is my favorite of the bunch. It’s like a cross between Survivor and Chopped that forces contestants to be as manipulative and horrible as possible as they try to sabotage one another. To make the rules even twistier each time they sabotage one another they cut into the amount of cash they can win, making their petty thefts and trickery all the more senseless. Still they do it, and Alton Brown presides over the proceedings seeming to take pleasure in watching the cooks try to out maneuver one another. It’s terrible and entertaining all at once. Tonight’s episode is called “Shrimp or Get Off the Pot Sticker”– expect wonderful things to happen.
