BBC America Announces Full Day of ‘Doctor Who’ Programming Leading Up to Matt Smith’s Farewell [+ Video]

BBC America is saying goodbye to the Eleventh Doctor with an entire day of Doctor Who programming this Christmas (December 25, 2013). The network unveiled their plans which include the TV premiere of the six-minute Doctor Who prequel, “The Night of The Doctor” at 6:00pm ET followed by an encore of the 50th anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor”. The evening will continue with a farewell to Matt Smith, a one-hour retrospective narrated by Alex Kingston (Doctor Who’s River Song) and featuring interviews with Smith and his cast mates. The special will premiere at 8 pm ET.

Finally, at 9PM ET the big event, “The Time of The Doctor” will premiere. Smith’s final Christmas special will find The Doctor led into a trap set by his deadliest foes including the Daleks, the Weeping Angels, Cybermen, The Silence and more. Drawn together by a mysterious message echoing from the stars, Eleven’s final adventure will take place on a seemingly quiet backwater planet.
