Veteran actor Dann Florek, known to ‘SVU’ fans as Captain Donald Cragen, is leaving Law & Order after appearing in the series for 15 seasons. As confirmed by TV Line, Florek broke the sad news on Twitter. “Friday was the last day 4 Cragen/Florek. It was a sweet send off! But he’ll live on in syndication land 4 evah,” Florek tweeted on Dec. 9.

‘SVU’ showrunner Warren Leight also shared the news with fans on Twitter over Florek’s exit. “Saluting the Captain at the close of his 401st episode — all respect to @dannflorek.”

NBC and Florek are keeping the details behind Captain Cragan’s departure under wraps. The veteran actor’s last episode will reportedly air in January. Florek is the third series regular to leave the series behind. Actor Chris Meloni logged his last appearance on the series back in 2011 after starring as Detective Elliot Stabler.

Actor Richard Belzer, who portrays Sgt. John Munch, has also stepped down as a series regular with plans to recur in the NBC series. Longtime ‘SVU’ star Mariska Hargitay still remains.

‘Law & Order: SVU’ will return in its new season on NBC, January 8 at 9/8c. Will you be tuning for to see Florek in his last season on the show? Leave us your comments below.
