‘Ripper Street’ Cancelled by BBC One

Ripper Street‘s second season will be its last.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that BBC One has cancelled the 19th century crime series. The series underperformed in the ratings in its second season, causing the BBC to pass on a third season pick-up. Ripper Street focused on a group of officers tasked with keeping the peace in one of London’s most dangerous parts of town shortly after the end of Jack the Ripper’s reign. Matthew Macfadyen, Jerome Flynn and Adam Rothenberg all starred.

Ripper Street airs on BBC America stateside and as of now season two is still planned to premiere in February 2014, so American fans will be able to see the final season.
