5 Reasons Why We Must Have a Crossover Episode Between Supernatural and Sleepy Hollow

Supernatural and Sleepy Hollow

For those of you unfamiliar with the term, a crossover is when two different TV shows (or any work of fiction) have characters from both shows, appearing in character, on the same show. So, for instance, you may be most familiar with the concept when a spin-off show occurs. Frequently on either the original show, or possibly on the first episode of the new show, characters from both shows will share an episode. We saw this with NCIS when it spun-off NCIS: Los Angeles, and with Star Trek: The Next Generation when it spun-off Star Trek: Deep Space 9, as two examples.

On TV, you can also have a crossover that does not involve a spin-off, for instance, there were a couple of crossover episodes between Hawaii Five-0 and NCIS: Los Angeles, and between Eureka and Warehouse 13. You will note that those crossovers were between shows on the same networks.

If you have a favorite show or two (or three…) and maybe even a favorite genre, you likely have read fan fiction which does crossovers with favorite characters from different programs. There is always a lively discussion among fans of possible crossovers that people would like to see. With this in mind, I would like to share my reasons why I think there definitely must be a crossover between two shows I love – namely the new show, Sleepy Hollow (FOX) and the veteran show, Supernatural (CW).

Dean and Ichabod

Ichabod - Sleepy Hollow

Ichabod, having originally lived approximately 200 years ago, certainly experiences culture shock on a daily basis. His discovery of the delights of this age, donut holes for example, would be all the more amusing if Dean were around to help him along the way. Burgers anyone?

And it would not be just food, although Dean would probably have to dial back the porn and girlie magazines a bit because Ichabod is a bit old fashioned. But, seeing them watch movies together would be as amusing as watching Dean and Castiel watch movies.

Experience vs. Newbies

Sam and Dean - Supernatural

Supernatural is now in its 9th season. These boys are experienced with hunting all manner of baddies. Sam and Dean could share their vast experience and knowledge with Ichabod and Abbie – and that would definitely be a huge benefit to them!

And at the same time, since Ichabod is in communication with his dead wife Katrina, who is also a good witch, it is likely Dean and Sam would learn some new things to help them in their battles! A win-win for everyone!

Already Doing the Same Work

Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse - Sleepy Hollow

They are all fighting demons, the difference being that Ichabod and Abbie are confined to the area around Sleepy Hollow, NY, and Sam and Dean travel all over the place. But, Sleepy Hollow has a major infestation of evil, so they really don’t need to go looking for it!

On Sleepy Hollow, they are fighting the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and in season 5, Sam and Dean were all over that – having dealt directly with War and Pestilence! They were trying to collect the rings from all 4 Horsemen in order trap Lucifer back in his cage. Another example is that both shows have had episodes dealing with the Croatoan virus. The mythology of the two shows might be a little different, but nothing that could not be overcome with some good writing.

Safety in Numbers!

Sam and Dean - Supernatural

It always makes me nervous when Sam and Dean go off somewhere without backup. And, even more nervous when one of them strikes out on his own! Seriously?!You need someone covering your six for crying out loud!

With Abbie and Ichabod, and of course Abbie’s sister Jennifer, and the reluctant police Captain Irving, that would make a good team for the crossover episode. They could even split into two teams of three each and still have sufficient backup!

Snark Fest

Dean and Castiel - Supernatural

I have said it before, and will gladly repeat myself. I love snark. And, what a snark fest a crossover episode between these two shows would be. Ichabod has a very dry humor and his observations on the modern world are always spot on and very amusing.

And of course, Sam and Dean are no slouches when it comes to snark, so getting those three going would be so very entertaining!

So what do you all think? Would a crossover work for these two shows? I realize they are on different networks, so that would be a problem, but I’m confident we could work it out! Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below!
