Hart of Dixie Season 3 Review “I Run to You”

I Run to You

Those of us who were so sure Joel would be out of the picture on Hart of Dixie within a couple of weeks are still being proven wrong. With every conceivable obstacle overcome – finding out about Wade, having Lavon dislike him, getting writers block outside of New York – what could possibly break them up? At this rate, I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if Joel made it past Christmas without leaving Bluebell and, without the prospect of Zoe and Wade hooking up again, I can’t see a reason for him to go.

I really love how the writers have manoeuvred Zoe, Wade and Joel around to become a twisted trio as, like with the hostage plot in ‘I Run to You’, it means Zoe and Wade can spend time together without it being about romance. We’re back to the flirty banter that saw us through the first season, and it tides fans over until the time is right to rekindle things. I don’t hate Joel, either, though I can’t see him fitting into the show long-term. Maybe the show needs to introduce a legitimate love interest for Wade to balance things out?

Other relationships in Bluebell are going just as swimmingly, with George and Linley coming clean to Lavon and Anna Beth and Lavon smoothing over their own issues. I knew the ultimatum AB gave him last week was a mistake but, at the same time, her issues with the relationship shouldn’t really have been solved by a tiny jam cupboard. Wouldn’t it be easier for her to move into Lavon’s massive house? At the beginning of the season, I assumed they were living together anyway, so the lack of forward movement seems as strange to me as it does to AB.

We didn’t see a lot of Lemon tonight, so I we’re approaching maternity leave for the actress. The big cliffhanger was the return of Shelby – seven months pregnant! Is the baby Brick’s? Judging by the effort the show made tonight to tell us how long it’s been since their breakup, we can assume that’s the case, and she’s bought Fancy’s out from under Lemon so she can move back to Bluebell. What reason would she have to keep the pregnancy a secret? No matter what the outcome, I really didn’t see this coming.

What did you think of the episode? Do you think Brick’s going to be a daddy again? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
