Bones Season 9 Review “The Fury in the Jury” – Two Murders for the Price of One

Bones Season 9 Episode 9 The Fury in the Jury 5

In this episode of Bones, called “The Fury in the Jury,” Brennan is called to serve on a jury, while the rest of the team works on a different murder of their own… until the two cases are intercrossed.

As someone who has been tapped to serve on two different juries, I got a kick out of watching someone like Brennan have to go through that process. Luckily, she had already been through all the waiting that comes during the selection process by the time the episode started, otherwise it would’ve been a pretty boring episode. There’s nothing more boring than that. Brennan was also on a very high profile case, one that the rest of the squints could watch on TV. That made hers a lot more exciting than both of mine put together.

Because I was so interested in watching Brennan deal with being on a jury with people who she constantly felt superior to and yet could not always get to do her will, I have to admit that I wasn’t completely following the murder that the rest of the team was working on back in the lab. I mistakenly thought that that murder would end up being a simple back-story and was completely caught off guard when it intertwined with Brennan’s case.

I felt for Booth and the rest of the squints when they found out who their victim was but were unable to tell Brennan about it. The law is a complicated thing (as I found out during my own time in a juror’s chair), but I really admired the way that no one ever broke it, yet still found a way to convict the man that they knew without a shadow of a doubt was their murderer.

My favorite bits:

All the squinterns speculating on the murder case on TV.

Brennan drawing skulls during the trial. Of course she was.

“I thought Daisy was covering for you.”
“She is, that’s why I want to check in.”

“Murder is bad enough, but soccer? That’s anti-American.”

Cam pointing out that nobody would jog in black socks. Very true.

“I hate water bodies.” – I’m right there with ya, Cam.

Hodgins asking Brennan to blink once for “guilty.”

“Beaten, shot and possibly drowned. This is very interesting.”
“You’ve clearly been bored.”

The judge announcing that he was sequestering the jury. Oh boy.

Hodgins accusing Angela of watching the trial as a sexy soap opera.

Finding out that Cam was getting an allowance from a court-appointed accountant. That has to suck.

“Yeah, no guy buys that many shoes.”

“There’s nothing like digging my hands in decomposing flesh to get my mind off my troubles.” – Um, yay?

Brennan not being able to help herself from telling the defense attorney that he was wrong.

Daisy offering her fold-out couch to Cam. Who knew that would be less awkward than the whole “we’re equals” part of the conversation?

Cam and Hodgins discovering their victim was the missing witness from Brennan’s trial. Uh oh.

“Justice is so…”

Loving the fact that the other jurors had given Brennan the nickname “Know It All.”

“Our honeymoon was far more enjoyable than jury duty,” – God, I hope so.

Finding out that Christine kissed Brennan’s picture before going to bed. Aw.

Everyone’s reaction to discovering that the jury had voted “not guilty” on Brennan’s case.

Booth finally getting to tell Brennan that his murder victim was Barnes.

Daisy announcing that she was taking ownership of her position and Brennan informing her that she was wrong.

Angela getting close to finding the person who stole Cam’s identity.

Sweets bringing Alison to tears in interrogation.

“I will not let him get away with murder twice.”

Brennan’s missed attempt at a fist bump.

Booth telling Kidman’s attorney that he should see Brennan in front of a journey, not on it.

Angela finding the woman that stole Cam’s identity, and Cam realizing it was her friend Haley Kent. What?

The entire ying… erm, I mean yin yang conversation.
