Nashville Season 2 Review “She’s Got You”

Nashville Season 2 Episode 7 She's Got You (10)

Juliette somehow finds herself in even more trouble on this week’s Nashville, and her dalliance with Charlie last week has played out in a few completely unexpected ways. Did any of us expect Olivia to react that way, rather than getting her claws out? I sure didn’t, but I can’t help but feel this is going in a direction that I’m not entirely happy with. We already have one closeted gay character on the show, after all.

Having said that, I did enjoy the main storyline of Juliette and the DJ, in which she asserted her power as the queen of country and refused to dumb herself down for radio air play. This is the Juliette I want to see, and I wish the show would stop putting her in positions that require her to be a bitch. Nice ain’t her colour, it’s true, but that doesn’t mean she can’t grow as a character from time to time. Olivia’s advance seems to have more to do with the search for a scandalous storyline than it does with character development.

Someone who is thankfully making changes for the better is Deacon. who not only redefined his career in this episode, but also made a start on connecting with his daughter. Finally, Rayna and Deacon have realised that their problems with each other should never have interfered with Maddie, and now dad and daughter can start to build a relationship. Maddie’s becoming a great character this year, and I hope we see more of this in weeks to come.

I don’t really want to talk about Teddy and Peggy, but they did actually get married in this episode. That would be a big deal if I even cared how this storyline played out but, as it stands, I just want to ignore it for as long as possible. It’ll inevitably blow up once someone discovers the lie, and when that happens I hope Peggy is outed for the bunny boiler she is. It’ll no doubt have an impact on the girls more than Rayna, but I otherwise fail to see what the point of it is.

What did you think of the episode? How awkward is it going to get for Scarlett and Gunnar on tour together? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
