Covert Affairs Season 4 Review “There Goes My Gun” – Misfortune Does Not Come Alone

Covert Affairs Season 4 Episode 15 There Goes My Gun (5)

In this episode of Covert Affairs, called “There Goes My Gun,” Auggie, Calder and Annie get closer and closer to catching Henry, while Arthur and Joan deal with some dangers of their own.

I swear these last few episodes of this season feel like they are moving in real time. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, not at all, I’m just saying that watching everyone get so close to Henry over and over again is starting to wear my nerves down to the bone.

First, Annie and Calder, with Auggie acting as basically their handler from afar, follow the courier with the diamonds so that they can follow him to Henry. Before they know it, the suitcase has been passed off and the courier is dead in the street. That sent Annie to the police station and set off the first set of nerves for me. Between the quick back-and-forth on the escalators, to Annie getting stuck in the police station, to her then offering a foreign spy a deal to trade Henry the diamonds for Henry, I thought I was going to lose it.

But that was just the beginning. Soon Annie’s plan is set into motion and they are following their new spy buddy to his meet with Henry. But of course, right before he heads off to the meeting, Henry gets a call telling him that Auggie and Calder are in Hong Kong and he immediately changes things up. I wouldn’t have thought that he’d immediately assume that Li was setting him up, but I guess that’s why he’s the spy and I’m not.

Meanwhile, back in D.C., Arthur figures out that his seemingly helpful attorney is actually working for Henry. Seriously, is there any place where his people haven’t infiltrated? That set off a second chain of events that had me gripping my chair in fear as Arthur got into a brawl with one of Henry’s men, got himself shot in the process and called Joan to warn her she was in danger. I thought Joan might be a goner, but thank goodness (because I really don’t think my heart was going to take much more) she got his message and killed her attacker.

Finally, Auggie, Annie and Calder realize Henry is on to them and that they are being followed and Annie makes another life-altering decision. She turns around and heads right into the lion’s den, walking right up to Henry in another extremely intense moment, but also what has to be one of my favorite moments so far this year. The look on his face was pure gold and totally worth everything this episode put me through.

And now we just have one episode left. My money is on Henry being dead by the time the next hour is over, but other than that, I have no solid theories on what will happen next. I have a hard time believing that everything will be wrapped up with a bow, but I sure hope we get some kind of closure after the roller coaster this season has put us through. I think I’m going to need a stiff drink when this one is over, and again, I totally mean that in a good way.

My favorite bits:

Joan telling Arthur that Annie was alive.

Their courier getting hit by a car. Oops.

Annie snagging a picture of the image from the security video.

Annie discovering she was locked in the room. Uh oh.

Everyone realizing that Annie had ID’d an MSS agent. So much tension!

Annie offering the agent a deal for Henry. Forgive my crassness, but damn that girl has balls.

Arthur realizing that Bianca might be working for Henry.

Auggie and Annie finally (FINALLY!) getting some time alone.

“You said you were hungry, but I don’t hear any slurping.”

Annie saying that sometimes she didn’t remember what life was like before she went dark, and Auggie pointing out that’s what it felt like when you are at war. Wow.

Annie and Auggie realizing that everything they had worked for would be over in eight hours, either with them going home or them dead from trying.

Annie choosing not to translate what the Li said on the sound check.

“You ready?”
“Yeah, I’ve never been more ready for anything in my whole life.” – I’m right there with her. Let’s get’er done!

Wanting to scream when Henry got the call that Annie and Auggie were in Hong Kong. Ugh!

Getting more and more nervous as Henry kept changing the meeting location.

Henry accusing Li of luring him into a trap. Oh man, this is so not going to end well.

Auggie taking down one of Henry’s men.

Actually screaming (okay, maybe it was more like a growl) when Henry drove away right before Annie got there.

The entire tense conversation deciding whether to leave Henry or not to leave Henry.

Arthur confronting Bianca. Wow, he doesn’t pull any punches.

As a horsewoman, really appreciating the fight in the barn. Using the various stable equipment was appropriate, as was the fact that the horses never made a peep. They really don’t neigh in fear. Maybe snort, but never neigh

Freaking out at the sight of all that blood on Arthur. Oh noes!!!

Joan catching her would-be murderer by surprise. Joan is a badass. That is all.

“I think I finally learned not to try and stop you when your mind is made up.” – Ha! Took long enough.

“There’s no way I’m leaving. Not without you.”

Auggie telling Annie that he was with her, no matter how it ended.

Annie and Henry’s reunion. So. Freaking. Awesome.
