Sons of Anarchy Season 6: Sons for Sandy

Last night, I was lucky enough to join other Sons of Anarchy fans at the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park, NJ for a fundraiser benefiting victims of Hurricane Sandy. The event grew out of the Sons of Anarchy Viewership Challenge. On August 30, 2013, Sutter issued the Season 6 challenge via his blog. Sutter promised that if the season 6 premiere ratings increased by any percentage in key demos, he would bring some cast members to your hometown and screen an episode. Winners were selected at random from social media – primarily Sutter’s followers on Twitter and fans of his Facebook page.

It came as no surprise that fans turned out in full force for the action-packed season premiere. The season opener set a series high with 5.87 million viewers and 3.94 in the highly-coveted 18-49 demographic. It was the number 1 show on both broadcast and cable TV among the key demographic.

Always a man of his word, Kurt Sutter announced the winners and the plan to turn the fan event into a fundraiser for Hurricane Sandy. Last night was the culmination of those efforts, which helped raise more than $60,000 for Hurricane Sandy victims in both Staten Island and New Jersey.

I was lucky enough to purchase a VIP ticket before they sold out and I am still on cloud nine. All attendees were treated to a special screening of tomorrow night’s episode, a brief Q&A session, a trivia contest and a special concert featuring Katey Sagal and Bob Thiele. VIP participants were treated to a special reception before the episode screening where Katey Sagal, Kurt Sutter, Bob Thiele, Theo Rossi and Kim Coates greeted fans and took pictures. The entire reception was surreal and I cannot say enough about how kind and gracious everyone was. They did a great job at working the room and trying to grant every request for pictures and autographs.

Kurt Sutter threatened to kill our dogs and cats if we spilled any secrets about tomorrow night’s episode. Luckily I’m not a pet owner, but I believed the threat and I believe in keeping things spoiler-free. Instead, I will give you a few hints about what to expect in tomorrow night’s episode:

– Maggie Siff continues to shine! No matter how you feel about what Tara did, there is no denying that Siff has been excellent this season. Look forward to a few tense face offs this week now that the truth of her escape plan has been revealed.

– Someone goes topless!

– The Irish are back. As always, Galen brings the drama whenever he’s in town.

– Look forward to another check-in with Pastor Clay.

– There’s a nice moment of levity between two unlikely people who both care a lot about Gemma.

It was a fantastic evening for a great cause. Check out a few pics from the evening and sound off in the comments!
