The Carrie Diaries Season 2 Review “Strings Attached”

Strings Attached

This episode of The Carrie Diaries, ‘Strings Attached’ was all about getting rid of the complications in Carrie’s life, and this happens just as hurricane Larissa blasts back into New York. The Manhattan chapter of Carrie Diaries season two seems to be on hiatus for a while as the school year starts up again, but hopefully the show can balance the two worlds more successfully than they did last year.

Another balancing act Carrie has to negotiate is her friendships with both Larissa and Samantha, who are so similar they inevitably start to butt heads. It doesn’t help that Larissa has adopted a brand new Zen attitude that she wants to pass onto Carrie before she heads back to school, and this doesn’t really mesh well with Samantha’s no nonsense brashness. I always thought Larissa was a Samantha Jones substitute for this episode, anyway, and it’ll be interesting to see how the two can coexist.

And Carrie is going to need that Zen attitude if she’s ever going to get over Sebastian. Worried she was going to succumb to his charms if she saw him in the school hallway, her new calming mantra didn’t exactly help her in that regard. Following a very sexy scene for the CW, Sebastian decides that he’s gotten Carrie into enough trouble and chooses to bow out gracefully. He’s right – we know it and Carrie finally knows it too – so maybe now we can either focus on Carrie as a career driven young woman, or she can find a new love interest.

With Carrie’s story getting stronger and stronger this season, the rest of the action just isn’t cutting it. Maggie’s college applications just aren’t very interesting in the grand scheme of things and, if the show doesn’t find a way to bring the three girls (and Walt) back together as one friendship group, I’m not sure where she and Mouse really fit. I want more of Donna and Walt, however, because their friendship is a really fun distraction from the melodrama elsewhere.
